Suggestion for CD mix making software

I enjoy making mix CDs to play in the car. Currently I am using an older version of Roxio to accomplish this. The software is several options which are useful, but it does not have an option to adjust the volume of each song. This causes some songs to be louder than others.

In the old days, your cassette tape player allowed you to manually adjust the volume. The tape would then have an even plume level. . Is there any software that allows you to do this when making a mix CD. Or are mix CD's just too old school?

    Thanks in advance.

Every software I'm aware of has a "normalize" option. Audacity for one.

What Audacity does NOT have, which I sorely miss from my old CoolEdit Pro, is the option to overlap beginnings and endings, essentially making one continuous mix (but still with distinct track markers). That was cool.

Roxio does have the overlap option, which is nice, but their normalize option fails to work very well. I was hoping to find one that has a manual option as opposed to an automatic. thanks.
