    New Trey Gunn

"The Waters, They Are Rising" will be the title of the new album from Trey Gunn, who reports:

"The Waters, They Are Rising" is a collection of material from three sources:

    1. Tracks recorded with Dylan Nichole Bandy for use in the film "Every Beautiful Thing", written and directed by Sonya Lea and starring Lauren Weedman.

    2. Live improvisations that served as intros to the Peter Gabriel piece "Here Comes The Flood". Performed during The Security Project tours of 2014.

    3. Extra material composed and recorded in the Fall of 2014 -- using only my touch guitar.

Hmm....I saw one of these shows, and distinctly remember being very impressed with this. I'm going to have to check this one out. Thanks for the heads-up!

I wonder if Gunn got the idea to collect these for use in an album from Markus Reuter, who's done at least three albums like this (which I haven't gotten around to getting):

...or was he inspired by Thrakattak?

This CD coincides with the bigger release for his scorebook (which i'm waiting on mine to arrive, all three: CD, book, and online version this week)...but you can now purchase all of them.

Hmmm. I'll pick this up, but I'll hold out hope that he releases another Trey Gunn Band album someday. Which I guess reminds me that I need to sit down with Invisible Rays a little bit more attentively. Purchased three months ago and I haven't given it a proper spin.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.

On the page for the Invisible Rays release, Gunn says
To be honest,” Gunn admits, “I am not that crazy about improvisation as a means to make records. I see it as a risky way to spend cherished studio time. But, we had the opportunity and, well, there’s no harm in trying.”
, so it's interesting he's coming out with an album that's at least partly drawn from improvs.

Well, recording improvisation when you're already doing it live (and solo) is a bit different from devoting expensive studio time to it with a group.

Me too. That group was really something else. The Joy of Molybdenum is still my favorite thing he's done under his own name and they only got even better once Joe Mendelson joined.

I do like that Invisible Rays album. Very crunchy.

I'll probably buy this new one, I do like his stuff.

    Auto-buy for me.
rcarlberg: Is there anything sadder than a song that has never been played?
Plasmatopia: Maybe a song in D minor that has never been played?

bob_32_116: That would be a terrific triple bill: Cyan, Magenta and Yello.

trurl: The Odyssey: "He's trying to get home."

In an interview in 2011 Trey Gunn was asked the question "What’s the status of The Trey Gunn Band?". This was his answer.

I have been speaking with the guys just this last week. We don’t have any plans for live shows, at the moment. But we are discussing the concept of re-mastering “The Joy of Molybdenum” and adding some newly recorded bonus material.
I guess he's been busy with other projects.

i believe some of the members of TTGB live on separate continents as well...although not sure that's really a big issue...outside of touring.

As good as place as any for this:
    https://deepenergyorchestra.bandcamp...ying-with-fire

It arrived yesterday. Had one listen through. I definitely wasn't expecting a Gunn solo disc based on the samples (and I didn't get one), but he's got some tasty leads mixed in with what sounds like mostly ensemble work. If the clip sounds like something you'd like, then it's probably worth a purchase. I'm sure it'll settle in nicely here.

Both Trey Gunn and Markus Reuter are performing on a new concept CD called In The Name Of ... (A Prayer For Our Times" by Unqiete Music LTD.

Here's the video teaser of this sometimes dark ambient album:
