    Most Pretentious Prog Title

I just saw the name of this album on another thread and thought this would be a fun topic

David Greenslade - The Pentateuch of the Cosmogony

What's the most pretentious prog title (song or album) that you know of?

I thought Emerson, Lake and Palmer's "Works" pretty much ran away with that prize.

Interesting discussion. The first thing that came to mind for me was any album/song that had the word "prog" in it.
    WANTED: Sig-worthy quote.

    Remember the old joke:

    Q. How do you spell pretentious?

Not sure how anyone's going to beat post #1.

If "Works" is so pretentious, what about ":rarum"?

At least with: Tales from Topographic Oceans, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, In the Court of the Crimson King, the quality of the music and musicianship are very, very high.

But nothing rivals "Citadel of Cynosure & Other Tales" by Citidal.

Band name is pretentious, album title is pretentious, album concept is pretentious, mediocre musicianship. Just a real over the top, trite, stinker.
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell

That was the one that came to my mind. Not just because the title is pretentious, but also because they were such a terrible band. If you're going to slap a flowery name on your product it better at least sound awesome.
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

Happy The Man had some wacky song titles, but they were mostly funny. I don't know that any of them would fall under "pretencious", though their music and bandmembers might fall in that category (as good as they are).

    How about some of these:

The Dream of the Blue Turtles - Sting
Islets in Pink Polypropylene - Anthony Manning
    Script for a Jester's Tear - Marillion

I would also nominate, by default, any album (or song) title that contains more than 10 words.

Well, the musicianship may be high, but... *ducks, scurries out of room* ;-)

Many Italian prog titles sound pretentious almost by definition (too long and beautiful!), although they may well mean something like "Let's have a party tonight" for all I know.

If you think this is a good example of a 'pretentious' title, I'd like to hear your definition of the word 'pretentious'.

Perhaps if there's a thread about the longest album titles, or the ones with sexual innuendo...

Or perhaps you think "Cunning Stunts" is a 'pretentious' title too ?

I'd also say Digital_Man's suggestion of Brain Salad Surgery is more innuendo than pretentious, seeing as it's supposedly a euphemism for fellatio, taken from here: http://youtu.be/HT4RainY-lY?t=1m4s

(You could add 'Mother Focus' to a rude titles thread too!)
