I think XTC captured a lot more with tracks like 'Easter Theatre', 'You Can't Own Her', 'Rook', 'I Remember The Sun', and 'The Good Things'.
Well those tunes were XTC being XTC. As "The Dukes," it was parody and pastiche, though they wrote some damn fine tunes in the process. Concerning "Pale and Precious," Dave Gregory was apparently a bit miffed with Andy Partridge for "sacrificing (what could've been) a perfectly good XTC tune on the alter of The Dukes." And maybe it could've been. We'll never know.

Absolutely! "Grey Skies" too. Their version of Joni Mitchell's "Amelia" was beautiful as well.

My vote goes to Beethoven's 7th symphony, 2nd. movement:

Yep, that too! That part where the lyrics are "let music rest in the hands of those who care" gives me chills every time; it's the combination of the music and the lyrics.

They had a lot of beautiful moments, didn't they?!

Well for Banco for me it would either be the opening section on "...Di Terra" or Traccia 2. But speaking of Italian prog the second track on PFM's "Storia di un minuto" would be a contender.

Rypdal's Den Forste Sne and KC's Trio would be my contenders, if we're allowed to suggest pieces that are at least partly improvised.

Yep -- let's hope the past tense is premature.

Speaking of Nature Boy, Annie Haslam does a rendition of If I Loved You (Rogers & Hammerstein) that goes into Nature Boy (unless it's the other way round) that's very beautiful. It made my wife cry.

Also, Nico's cover of My Funny Valentine is beautiful.

Is that the one where she slows it down to a ten minute song sung in a very low register? "Beautiful" isn't the first word that comes to mind for that....

Three classical warhorses that still seem beautiful for me: Pavane, Op. 50 by Faure, The Swan of Tuonela by Jean Sibelious, Adagio for strings, Op. 11 by Samuel Barber.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

No, it's just a few minutes long and John Cale arranged it. One of her last albums.

I absolutely love this version of Nature Boy -

And one of my favorite notes of all time is the first trumpet note of this song -

Duncan's going to make a Horns Emoticon!!!

Don't songs need to have singing?

Does it matter that this waste of time is what makes a life for you?

One song, of which the memories go way, way, back:

    Jeff Lynne with his early(ish) Electric Light Orchestra - Bluebird is Dead from 'On the Third Day;
The voice of Mr. Lynne, his enunciation, and perhaps a nod to the Beatles....... Ahhhhhhh!

Yes if you want to be pedantic about it.
