Nektar. Only because their sound changed with each album.

You could say the same about Mr. Bungle.

I don't think anyone's successfully cloned the Pink Floyd sound (specifically the riffs-within-riffs thing, like "Have a Cigar").

Legendary Pink Dots -- not really fair, because they had multiple sounds. Yes, if you took one (e.g. the folksy side, or the spacey/psychedelic side) you might have imitators, but no one band had the same gamut of styles that they did.
rcarlberg: Is there anything sadder than a song that has never been played?
Plasmatopia: Maybe a song in D minor that has never been played?

bob_32_116: That would be a terrific triple bill: Cyan, Magenta and Yello.

trurl: The Odyssey: "He's trying to get home."

I don't exactly see Cardiacs' clones spamming the PE Facebook page ...

Wait, PE have a Facebook page?

Yes, but we do not speak of it. It is a wretched hive of spam and self-promotion.

Although they were Italian and had female singers, Barrock sounded like a Grobschnitt clone to me, and a very good one.

Crimson Tide was a very passable Steely Dan clone.

Just picture Donald Fagen singing this... (With MM on backing box...)

One of the most profoundly singular pop/rock projects of all time. You simply CAN'T reproduce a musical vision emannating from such an eccentric mentality as his/theirs. Thx for mentioning them.

Not many people would agree with you.

That Porkypine Tree band had it down pretty good at one time. And the old Red Rider song Lunatic Fringe gets mistaken for Floyd all the time by people who don't know better...

    Previously-mentioned bands:
Tull - Horslips sounds like them on their "Aliens" albums and to a lesser degree on "Book of Invasions".
    Pink Floyd - RPWL

    My candidates for no imitators/descendents:
    BE BOP DELUXE
    CHICAGO

You say Mega Ultra Deluxe Special Limited Edition Extended Autographed 5-LP, 3-CD, 4-DVD, 2-BlueRay, 4-Cassette, five 8-Track, MP4 Download plus Demos, Outtakes, Booklet, T-Shirt and Guitar Pick Gold-Leafed Box Set Version like it's a bad thing...

Well, they weren't doing quite exactly the same thing but Blood Sweat and Tears had a lot of Chicago going on.

See I don't find much of a similarity between Henry Cow, Thinking Plague and U Totem.

Mind you I thought Ozrics and Hidria were quite unique until spacefreak listed 30 bands.

Yeah. Floyd had different eras, too. Agitation Free sound very Floyd influenced to me, albeit of the '69-'71 vintage. A lot of the early kraut stuff was channeling '60s Floyd.
