Instead of repeating the same Anglo choices already mentioned previously, I will list a few non-Anglos that I think are the equal of many mentioned.

Banco - Canto Nomade Per Un Prigioniero Politico
    Banco - L'Evoluzione
    PFM - L'Isola di Niente
Il Balleto Di Bronzo - Introduzione\
    Magma - MDK
    Sloche - Le Karême D'Eros
Ebehard Weber - No Motion Picture
Samlam Mammas Manna - Dundrets fröjder
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell

How bout "What will be the best epic sidelong track of 2015?"

Neal Morse - Mrs. Eugenia Facesitter vs The Giant Five-Speed Vibrator from the Planet Erecton (instrumental)

No one can argue with this.

I can, 'cause you forgot to put something about that 'God' fella in there.

There's a raft of prog artists I listen to and revere much more than Mike Oldfield, but nevertheless it's Tubular Bells Part I for me. Utterly sui generis; can't believe no one's faved it yet.

Nah, he totally ditches the god stuff in 2015 in favor of turn of the century erotica. Instrumentals.

Probably because I've heard it too many times.

    But it is great.

Plasmatopia: Maybe a song in D minor that has never been played?

bob_32_116: That would be a terrific triple bill: Cyan, Magenta and Yello.

trurl: The Odyssey: "He's trying to get home."

Sacred cow I know, but I never liked Tubular Bells all that much. There are some good themes in there, but it always sounded to me like a sampler, like someone showing off what was possible with everything being produced by yourself. "Oh yes, there's no grungy guitar yet, I should put that in somewhere." It's too bad this is his chief claim to fame, as opposed to other albums such as Incantations that I think are much better.

I do love Incantations - always takes me back to Christmas 1978 listening to the just-released double LP in my bedroom over and over - and I actually prefer Ommadawn as an album to Tubular Bells as an album, but I think TB Part 1 (ie Side 1) is unimprovable. Of course, Oldfield himself thought there was a lot wrong with it so it is just my opinion after all.

The entire Tales from Topographic Oceans. I almost always listen to the entire piece because I consider it a multimovement work. I discovered classical music around the same time and I am sure that that influence my listening style. Same with Karn Evil 9, though I do listen to those movements individually more often than TFTO.

Interesting choice. For me this would have made a great 5-6 minute track, but as it stands 4 minutes of 'ah-aha / ah-aha / oo-ohoo / oo-ohoo' is more than I can tolerate

Oh...oh...oh... I've always wanted to do this, and I can't believe I didn't realize I had the perfect opportunity:

I agree with most of these. I am not sure I think of "the musical box" as an epic so I would replace it with "Cinema Show." Also, I don't know the Rick Wakeman track or the Utopia track and I'm not a big fan of UK but other than that it's a great list.

    A few I might add:

    Focus- Eruption
    Caravan - Nine feet underground
    " - Dabsong Conshirtoe
Nektar - Remember the Future part 1
    Ash Ra Tempel - Amboss
    Renaissance - Song of Scheherazade
    ELP- The Endless Enigma
    Pink Floyd - Echoes
    " " - Atom Heart Mother
" " - Shine on you crazy diamond (all parts)
    " " - Dogs
    Rush - 2112
    " - Hemispheres
    " - Xanadu
    Kansas - Song for America
    " - Magnum Opus
    King Crimson - Starless
    " - Lark's Tongues in Aspic Part 1

How is Cinema Show more epic than TMB?

The element of evergoing repetition was one of the major weaknesses with much of Zep's material to begin with, IMHO. And this includes their purported epics (like "Kashmir"). The best long-form tunes of theirs, to my ears at least, were "Rain Song", "When the Levee Breaks" (yeah I know, a ripoff) and "No Quarter". But even in a "classic" such as "Black Dog" I'm pretty bored after the fifth damn verse.

still Iron Butterfly-Butterfly Bleu was the first 15min+ prog/metallish true epic, and a good one too. I still enjoy it every time I spin Metamorphosis. With lots of other awesome tracks on that album (New Day, Soldier, Easy Rider etc). Used to own an LP at some stage...

I agree, especially on Achilles. Kashmir gets a pass; its repetition is mantra-like (probably intentionally) and I find it hypnotic in a good way. Much like Levee really. Plus I tune in on the little things Bonham does; I know every (and I mean every) accent he does in that song after hearing it for 40 years.
