Dave Sinclair-Disassociation.Dave sings and plays keyboard.

I was blown away when i heard this clip. Dave Sinclair sings and plays keyboard on Disassociation, from Nine Feet Underground, the long track on Caravan's In The Land Of Grey And Pink. After a couple of minutes of introduction, Dave gets down to business, and quite lovely business it is,imo.Enjoy.

Steven Wilson's alternate mix of "9 Feet" on the recent "Grey & Pink" 40th anniversary reissue also used Dave's lead vocal for the closing section. It seems Dave always wanted to sing in Caravan (he once told me he originally sang "For Richard" too) but they wouldn't let him... Until "Sally Don't Change It" on "Back To Front"...

Is his voice anything like his brother's?

Super nice -- thanks for the post.
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

I've never heard his brother sing. Not even sure he has one...

    Wonderful. Beautiful.

His voice is somewhat like (cousin) Richard's, maybe a bit more fragile (I mean that in a good way).
Hired on to work for Mr. Bill Cox, a-fixin' lawn mowers and what-not, since 1964.

I love David's voice. Richard Sinclair is among my favorite singers ever, but there is a rough and ready beauty to David's. "Fragile" is a great way of putting.

"Sally Don't Change" it is gorgeous--basically a beautifully melancholy soft rock song with ACTUAL REAL LIVE CHORD CHANGES in it.

And "Wanderlust" from his first solo album is pretty great too.

Yes, yes, yes this version of Disassociation is awesome. Thanks for digging this up!

Sung by Tim Lynk. As far as I remember David himself didn't sing on that.

    Thanks for sharing this.
There is something about that song that really strikes me deep.
Funny thing is when I first started liking Caravan in the 70's, that was not one of my favorites.
It was not until years later that I heard it again, like for the first time.
Now people at work get to listen to me sing along when it comes up on random play.

Oh wow--I never realized that. Take back what I said, although I still like the song very much.

Also: who was Tim Lynk? Did he sing on that whole record?

Another huge fan of the song Wanderlust here. But the Dave Sinclair song that really does it for me is Piano Player.

    And thanks for the link.

    and

    http://calyx.perso.neuf.fr/cantdisco/index.html -> "S" -> Dave Sinclair "Moon Over Man"

(You'll see that Dave S does sing a handful of songs on "MoM" himself - esp. on the expanded reissue.)

So Calyx, what is the current story with regard to Dave?. Is he still in Japan? What was the purpose of his U.K. visit some time ago when he played a one off gig with Billy Bottle?. And why has his album Stream not yet seen light of day outside of Japan?...........assuming you know some of this stuff.

I am not in regular contact with Dave, but I assume he regularly returns to the UK to visit his kids. As for "Stream", he had a rather acrimonous falling out with the label who produced it and the situation seems inextricable at this point. It is truly a shame after all the hard work (not to mention prestigious guests) invested in its making.

    Thanks for that !

One last thing, again assuming you have an idea..........

The Caravan reunion gig at Nottingham filmed in 1989 is apparently being reissued on CD/DVD

Will this be the same as previous formats or will the whole gig be aired. I attended this and do know that more songs were played in the set than the CD gives us.

I have no insider information about that. I don't expect bonus video. There were a couple of extra songs on the 1993 CD release but we never got the video for that, and I would assume the original unedited videotapes were wiped or lost.

(It was 1990, not 1989, btw)

    Thanks again.

1990 was it. How time flies.

The same production team also put on Hatfield and the North, Rick Wakeman, Ten Years After and many others. You just had to turn up. All free entry as studio audience.
