Gotta love Johnny!!! Sex Pistols was a great, great band and Public Image Ltd. was truly groundbreaking. One of the best front men I've ever seen. You really can't take your eyes off that little clown.

I agree 100% with Johnny.
He calls himself John Lydon principally because that is his name.
"Johnny Rotten" was a stage name, the double entendre probably being lost on most people outside of the UK.
I don't think he does try to annoy and offend as many people as possible, he is simply being honest and saying what he thinks. It would be more refreshing if more people did the same.
having read this thread and seen numerous Lydon interviews the last couple of years, i agree, but I'd call him a 'provocateur'. He's usually abrasive yet entertaining - a ham at least - when he's on camera/stage. I've heard him contradict himself, with political comments & saying one time how the members of the Sex Pistols didn't really like each other, then another time saying how well they all get along with each other. Also a bit self-righteous. I give him credit for his performance wardrobe. He wears stuff that does not match, and I like that a lot.
Good grief, does he wear platform shoes? He's only 5'8"

Sadly, Johnny's real problem nowadays is that he truly believes all the rumours, lies and hype about himself that others have created over the decades. He can't distinguish the real events and behaviour of his life from the made up stuff.
I agree it's about the show, but it puts out this notion to the public that all songs must be sung in certain formulas, which is true with pop and the mainstream versions of any genre, but not in any art form let alone music. Most people who actually like music like an artist because the artist has a unique style and sound that appeals to them, not because it fits some commercialized formula. American Idol, Clear Channel radio, The Voice, etc. are like walking into an ice cream store and having the choice of what vanilla you like and not much else. I think also, especially in CC's case, they tend to squash out the non-mainstream choices-sort of like having a chain of vanilla ice cream stores who put in exclusivity clauses into every location they go into in hopes of making themselves the only ice cream store to go to.
"Alienated-so alien I go!"
