    Rush plan year of reissues

14 of the Canadian giants’ albums to launch on hi-def audio throughout 2015
Universal Music are to release 14 Rush albums from their Mercury days on high quality audio throughout 2015.

Last month the band released their long-awaited R40 box set – a six-disc collection of live recordings plus previously unseen footage from their early days. Now a run of reissues will launch next year, starting in January with 1975’s Fly By Night and ending in December with 1989’s A Show Of Hands.

All the records will be reissued on vinyl and bundled with a code for the digital audio version and high resolution digital audio release, while Fly By Night, A Farewell To Kings and Signals will also be issued on Blu-ray audio.

Earlier this year, Universal reissued the band’s self-titled 1974 debut.

Mainman Geddy Lee recently said he and guitarist Alex Lifeson were “chomping at the bit” to start writing the follow-up to 2012’s Clockwork Angels. They’ll decide early next year whether they’ll tour in 2015.

    Rush 2015 reissues
    January: Fly By Night

    February: Caress Of Steel

    March: 2112, All The World’s A Stage

    April: A Farewell To Kings

    May: Hemispheres

    June: Permanent Waves

July: Moving Pictures, Exit… Stage Left

    August: Signals

    September: Grace Under Pressure

    October: Power Windows

    November: Hold Your Fire

    December: A Show Of Hands

I purchased all of the 96/24 albums from HDTracks already. Will any of these releases contain higher resolution files?

How will these differ from the previous remasters? I don't mean the R40 boxes, the earlier ones.

    I'm interested in the Blu-rays as I'm assuming they'll be a 5:1 mix ?

Same as the 5.1 discs from the sector sets (though BD rather than DVDA)

I'll reserve judgement until I find out if they are mastered specifically for the vinyl format.

If they are, I'm all over it. If not, than I'll just enjoy the original vinyl as I always have.

If there is enhanced artwork and liners, then it may get complicated depending on what it is.

So, a year of basically funding their semi-retirement.

They really do seem to be trying to squeeze every last drop, huh?

I'm not complaining or anything - just my not-so-inner cynic coming out.

In general, they've churned out a lot of original material and have been a "working band" for a long time. I don't begrudge them anything.

Is there any discernible reason why these would sound better than the original LPs which are widely available?

    Brand new virgin vinyl ?

It's not like we ever find some new old stock of the old records, right!?

Knowing where they have these pressed is a factor as some vendors are better than others. the Neil Young NYA 180g pressings from West Germany are really great

I dunno. Reading Peart's books, it sounds like at least he depends somewhat on a steady income.

He does live in one of the costliest markets of SoCal, or California, period. He owns multiple residences, though. They all do. I think he prefers to live at a certain standard. If he wanted to chuck it and spend the rest of his days building an earthship in Barstow, I've no doubt he could.

I don't know why but just the way they phrase that makes me think of something like "Rush plan Year Of Tribulation". Like, thanks, guys.

They're welcome to try to suckle at my teat, but they need to have something besides more remastered CDs.

Especially since the original Mercury cds sound fantastic.
