Funny that no one has mentioned Mike Mangini yet. He's either really bad or no one on here likes Dream Theater.

Most people here don't know who they are any more than I did the original ten listed. You can also throw in Apt.Q258

It seems, far more often than not, that people here rate DT as the aural equivalent of watching paint dry or grass grow. I, for one, think Mike is a criminally underrated player.

    Apt.Q258. Good call.
I have no idea about what modern drumming is. Bruford is not active any more, does that make his drumming is oldfashioned?
I think that schools like Berkley, makes musicians sound samey.

btw - Dave ask "What is a "modern" drummer? Does he/she play Prog Pop? "
Keiichi Nagase from Happy Family had a pop band in between the 2 incarnations of Happy Family.

My favorite "new" cat that I have discovered in the past few years is Guilhem Meier from PoiL. Absolutely love this guy's approach, sound, technique, pocket, etc etc. My favorite old "modern" guy is still Vinnie, especially on the FZ Shut Up records.

Best is such a matter of taste and there are so many innovative and incredible drummers in many genres, that is would be impossible to name them all. To me once a drummer is at a certain skill level, one is as good as another. These "best of" lists are a joke.

Not bad for a ten year old. His left foot independence is more advanced than most drummers 10 times his age.

Damon Che played indie-rock/pop in Bellini (w. Uzeda-members) before reforming his drummer's onslaught with Don Caballero.

I absolutely agree that Morgan Ågren is the most profoundly *impressive* drummer working in rock now. Such an overwhelming musicality at large with him, really.
