[QUOTE=rcarlberg;346817]Except... the used market will not sustain an industry.
I think what Birdy was talking about is the resurgence in new vinyl, both re-releases of Hendrix and Tull and such period music (which WAS -- and still IS -- great!) as well as the newer bands who are peddling vinyl releases because their audience seems to want the experience.
Yes, that's right. Wait, WHAT?? There are many releases now, especially indie bands who are selling way more on LP than on CD. Part of the reason is because so many of them have a free CD or download coupon included so you get the best of both worlds. As an example, the latest Black Keys album "Turn Blue", we have now sold 48 times on LP and 2 times on CD. Just seems to be that age group and market, whereas something like Porcupine Tree "Sky Moves Sideways" appeals to both CD and LP buyers(no free CD or download) and we sell fairly equal amounts now.
I would also argue that part of the reason WHY LP's started coming back is BECAUSE the used market never really went away for vinyl and there was always a market. After all, we're not exactly seeing a resurgence in 8-tracks.
