Extreme are currently on tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of the album's original release. Guitarist Nuno Bettencourt said earlier this year that the band were working on a sixth album.

Nice that they're doing this, but they really buried the lede:

You lucky bugger. I hope they schedule a date around here for this but I won't hold my breath.

I really like this band, but don't think I'll be getting this reissue. Much more interested to hear new material when that comes out.

really...Disc 2 here is not worth it. A bunch of remixes mostly?
Better to get the new material out.

They are playing a Casino in Battle Creek MI which is about a half hour from me. I was really surprised when they were announced. We have something like 20th row center seats too which should be cool. I have only seen them once, way back on the “3 Sides To Every Story Tour”, so I am kind of stoked for this one. IMO they are one of the most underrated and overlooked bands of their era.

    Pornograffitty is a good record.
Even better IMO was the follow-up: I adored "3 sides to every story" but then hated "Waiting for the Punchline". How do they sound these days?

The most recent album, IMO, is sort of between "Waiting..." and the earlier albums in terms of production. Not nearly as raw as "Waiting...", but certainly more stripped down than the early albums. If you want lots of acoustic guitar, strings, and keyboards mixed in with your heavy funky rock you might be disappointed with "Saudades de Rock". But it's a solid album with good, well-written tunes. Guitar-wise I don't think Nuno's soloing is as prominent now either. He's a little more reserved in that regard, but what he does do it still amazing.

Agree with all of the above. "Three Sides" is still their best album, with "Pornograffitti" being a close second (need I say "imo?" ). I liked them better when their albums were more slick, layered and heavily produced. But I like "Punchline" more than most seem to and their last one was at least as good. The main attraction for me is Nuno, who's one of the best and most underrated rock "shredders" around; great producer/arranger as well.

I'm not nearly the heavy rock fan I once was, but I can dig it when it's as good as Extreme or King's X.

BTW, I'm not a big fan of re-releases in general and the alternate mixes and stuff don't really compel me to buy it; my copy of Pornograffitti is good enough.

He's like Holdsworth - not just about notes-per-second, but has something to say.

I, too, prefer the slick production and would love to see them return to that in some way, shape, or form. I like "Waiting..." pretty well. One thing that "Waiting..." and "Saudades" have is somewhat busier drummers. There's a bit more complexity and subtlety, etc....compared to the more power-style drumming of the earlier albums...at least that's my perception of things.

Agree with all of this, though I probably rate Saudades higher than most, and rarely listen to Punchline much anymore.

Exactly how I feel. “Porno” is good, “3 Sides is great”, “Punchline” was a huge disappointment. The only more recent album I have is the 2CD live one from 2009 which is great.

I saw them on their most recent tour, when they played this record in its entirety. What an excellent band. Unbelievably underrated.

As mentioned earlier in this thread I will be seeing them in January and they are doing the full album. Just curious, did they do anything off of "3 Sides" or was it all "Porno"?

They played "Rest in Peace," "Am I Ever Gonna Change," and "Cupid's Dead."

    You're in for a treat.
