How does Hackett do that at the end?

Which part? Give a time. 4:07?

I was really hoping the photographer had caught what I call his "scribbles", I have yet to find a good video of that to figure out what he is doing.
rcarlberg: Is there anything sadder than a song that has never been played?
Plasmatopia: Maybe a song in D minor that has never been played?

bob_32_116: That would be a terrific triple bill: Cyan, Magenta and Yello.

trurl: The Odyssey: "He's trying to get home."

yeah, an echo pedal of some sort. Something with pitch control.

So he's using an echoplex and the vibrato and feedback? It almost appears he may have a electromagent like an ebow as well, because it looks like some of the sounds are happening without his right hand actually touching the strings.

I think he's using a loop pedal, and at the very end he is accessing some loop notes he had pre-sampled. He is continuing to play his guitar live, but the little descending notes are being accessed from something he played previously, whether in that solo or something he played in before. He is not using an e-bow anywhere here, holding his hand over the guitar is all for show.

I''m fairly sure it's a loop put through a Whammy pedal.

I think all the movements with his hand are for show -- the real control is happening off-camera with his foot.

He seems to be using a Fernandes Les Paul copy here, so maybe he's utilising this feature of it:

Then further manipulating it with a pedal and the vibrato bar.

He isn't using it that much here, only a tiny bit at the end, but the ring he wears on his right hand pinky is very integral to his sound. One of the spots he always uses it IIRC is that slide bit at the beginning of his solo in The Musical Box.

I never realized how often he uses that until I saw him on this tour.
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally

Yeah, I thought it might be something like a Sustainiac.

You're exactly right, it's a loop through a Whammy pedal.

More importantly, what t-shirt is he wearing?

Nice footage indeed. I have the original edition of Gallo's Genesis book and his Gabriel book as well. BTW, I also have Kim Poor's Genesis Lyrics Illustrated book signed by Steve many years ago at the Paradise in Boston. Wonder if he'd sign a copy today...
