Anyone familiar with the Italo-American composer Pietro Alessandro Yon? He's a recent discovery for me and I'm slowly working my way through a collection of his organ works. My favourite piece so far:

This will be performed tomorrow in Utrecht

I hear some Mike Oldfield in the vocal part, but was Oldfield influenced by this?

Finnish conductor and composer, Leif Segerstam, has died at age 80. He recorded some excellent Sibelius, as well Per Norgard, among others. RIP

Sad loss. I own many of his recordings, much of which are his own prolific numerous symphonies.

Just watched John Adams conduct the Rotterdam Philharmonic yesterday playing 'de Staat' and 'Harmonielehre'.

Absolutely superb. For years I hoped to hear Louis Andriessen piece 'de Staat' performed live. It did not dissapoint.

I knew that Louis Cole (from Knower) liked classical music but you may not know that from hearing some of his music. But his new album nothing is performed with the the Metropole Orkest orchestra and has some purely orchestral pieces that some of you might find interesting. Of course it wouldn't be a Louis Cole album without the goofy costumes, trite lyrics or tunes with that funk-pop beat, but it's nice to see him dip his toe into the classical realm. Here's an example of the title track:
