Just listened to this. Bax - The Tale the Pine Trees Knew. I recommend the Naxos CDs of Bax 5 and 6. This tone poem is included on the CD with Bax 5. Bax 6 is totally awesome. Heavy as shit. Highly recommended.
I love all of Bax's music. His Winter Legends is one of my favorites of his. I always play Christmas Eve on, well Christmas Eve.

From two CDs on the Kairos label I picked up this week.

John Cage-Second Construction (1940)
I recommend the cd of Cage's early percussion works played by Third Coast Percussion, on Mode Records.

^ Gurre Lieder is wonderful, and I would think a bunch of folks (even classical "fans") steer clear of anything by Mr Schoenberg, which is unfortunate.
If it isn't Krautrock, it's krap.

I was listening to the Chailly recording last night. I like it a lot. To my ears it sounds a bit more passionate and romantic than Boulez's cooler approach.https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...rb31ON6ZCK1bKo

This cd is my most played Schoenberg(well, to be honest, it's my only Schoenberg cd).

I could never find an affordable copy of that CD, Walt. So I bought a wind quintet CD on the Koch label by the Houston Chamber Players. https://www.amazon.com/Schoenberg-We...%2C159&sr=1-16

I recall reading a recommendation of this particular cd of Schoenberg(Decca) and buying it somewhere(Discogs?).I recall paying a reasonable price for it,i forget the particulars.

I put on one of Chalkpie's favorites this morning.
I love my Tilson Thomas Ives CDs. There is a more recent recording by the Seattle Symphony but I haven't heard it.

Lately i've been listening to recordings of Beethoven's late String Quartets.I purchased Quartetto Italiano and the Busch Quartet's recordings of these works. The Busch Quartet discs were restored/remastered by the Pristine Classical label and sound amazing for music recorded in the 1930's.Both are masterful renditions. It will take some time before i can say which i prefer(if that time ever comes,i don't have the world's most sensitive ears).
I'd be curious which recordings y'all have and your opinions of 'em(if any)

Walt, I have the Yale Quartet recordings. They were recorded in 1971 but the sound is superb. I like these a lot, and I'm not an avid Beethoven quartet listener. I have one complete set by the Tokyo Quartet on RCA. A good bargain set that seems to have gotten universal praise.
I checked the complete Italiano set out of the library and it did sound very good. They seem to be a favorite of many listeners for standard repertoire. There are some fanatics at the Talk Classical site that can turn you on to dozens of recordings if you do a search.
Not being familiar with this label, I went to Discogs to check out their offerings, and sadly, much of their output appears to be on CDR.
