I picked up this CD after listening to one of his pieces in the Boulez / Erato Recordings box.

    By John Cage.

I prefer slow-tempo, minor chords, piano, violin. Probably very commercial - Schubert, Haendel, Brahm, Chopin, Beethoven, Satie, Debussy.

It's hard for me to remember titles, or even artists, just like most jazz, because it's instrumental... I will try to set time to check out all 61 pages of this thread, because I know I'll find some great stuff, despite having over a thousand videos on my "Watch Later", I can expedite this.

Maybe it's just me, but I only enjoy listening to classical (and jazz) when it's dark.

Yeah, but it's hard to reach the foot pedals.

I know you're joking, but it's pretty much a standard organ console that controls the thing. The foot pedals are right where they're supposed to be.

^ We went to Luray Caverns when I was a kid, so I likely saw it, but don't remember it.

I went to Luray Caverns as a kid too (late 70s for me). I don't remember seeing it either. How long has it been there?

I was on a big RVW kick a few weeks ago. I picked up the Previn cycle.

Whole album is great. Coulda filled it up with another piece, though.

So many folks go out of their way to make Webern sound "gnarly". Not so, here. #smooveness

^^ Dies Irae is also the basis for The Enid's The Last Judgement. And one of the most difficult piano pieces, Liszt's Totentanz.

Dies Irae is all over the place in classical music as well as soundtracks. In addition to Totentanz, of the top of my head, there's Berlioz's Simphonie Fantastique and Peter Sculthorpe's Memento Mori, which is pretty much entirely built off of it.

There's many more examples, but they aren't coming to mind right now. Some of which I possess recordings of. Easy to look up, I'm sure.

I'm pretty sure I was actually listening to Khachaturian Symphony 2, which uses it, when I was writing my post yesterday. That symphony is heavy as shit, by the way.

Khachaturian's Second has long been a favorite of mine. But then I'm also a fan of Paul Hindemith and Havergal Brian. 2 composers people tend not to like.
