Just getting in to this one. Pretty heavy, and loaded with symbolism.

Heavy indeed. I have had the Kronos Quartet CD of it for years. That album also has a mean Shostakovich Quartet no. 8 on it. Whole record is really good.

George Crumb is not too crummy! I have a few CDs of his other works.

Could this perhaps be labelled (modern) classical music?

    I would say so.

Maybe not the entire thing, but certainly some of it. I hear a bit of spectramism in there.

    ^ Nice!

I've been hitting the first batch of Lenny Mahler recordings with the NYP. My buddy Andreas Meyer (who actually was neighbors with my wife growing up in Northern NJ) worked for Sony and remastered this set. Sounds incredible and even more so considering the dates. He mastered the stuff I've played on like Frogg Cafe and the cardboard amanda album. The M2, M3, M5, M7 are all pretty amazing. I haven't heard the rest yet. Mahler at the beginning of autumn is a beautiful thing.

I have an incomplete collection of Bernstein Century editions. Missing Nos.2 & 8. I should just buy the whole remastered set.

    Bartok, Ginastera...ish.
The whole piece is worth it - this is just 1/3.

His sons Anders & Thomas started up Savage Rose.

Dig me some Koppel. Symphonies 3, 4, 6, 7 and Concerto for Orchestra kick major booty.

Just back from the concert hall. John Adams conducting the Rotterdam philharmonic playing, Steve Reich - Three movements, Philip Glass - Concert for two pianos and John Adams - Naive and sentimental music.

Superb night out. The Reich piece blew me away.
