Loony, who owns the house? Can you get a power-of-attorney over your mom? If you can't afford the legal help contact the bar association in your state and they should be able to get you in touch with either some legal aid organization or a lawyer who will do it pro bono.

Excellent legal advice, Loony. There is help out there, don't try to do this alone. You need the law behind you, and you'll be surprised how many people will be happy to help you.

First off, we need an update from Loony.

Second, what to do in England with dad's old collection of sassy reading material

Was reading through this thread again. I'm still thinking about my family members who've died.

One project I intend on starting this year is to box up all the useless junk my aunt left. All I'm keeping are the family photos (hundreds of 'em). I'll probably box those up too and have them ready in case the house gets destroyed in the next hurricane. Before I do any of that I need to sort all my CDs. It's not a monumental task but I've been lazy about it. Next time I take a week off I'll start all this.

Interesting. These days printed porn seems to be an anachronism, what with the surfeit of free online porn (how would I know that?) Nevertheless, my dad kept a box of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Editions and Playboys, and I've found they're worth $15-20 each on eBay and Amazon. His copy of Playboy with nude photos of Ivanka Trump is still for sale, if you want to see our First Lady in a whole new light.

Ivanka is First Daughter. I wasn't aware that she had ever posed, but it appears it may be time for a Google search.

I collected many of the celebrity PLAYBOY/Penthouse mags for a bit. I have all the Madonna issues as well as the controversial Vanessa Williams rags.

I believe that the photos RC is referring to are of Melania Trump, not Ivanka.

I live in the house I inherited from my parents. Never found a porn cache of my dad's. However a few ancient articles of my brother's were found when I tore out some ceiling tiles in the basement.

I used to subscribe to Playboy but the collection has been winnowed down to a foot high stack. There is an old issue of Oui that I should track down - it had a fairly insane feature on a Led Zep tour.

I'm sure you've had strong, vivid dreams about them being alive. About a week after my brother died I had a dream where I saw him walking passed me in a mall. And I was shocked that he was alive. I wanted a chance to explain myself to him over that huge blowout I had with him.

Reminds me of some controversy with a Dutch author. She wrote a novel based on her diseased brother. She and some other family-members had to clean out the house, were they found a large collection of porn, including phaedophilic material. All was sold to some store. In interviews the author kept stating everything was true but when there was a lot of critisism about selling phaedophilic material she said, it was just a novel, based on a real person and real circumstances and that she didn't sell phaedophilic porn.

I had that kind of dreams when my mother has died. Dreams about here coming back, as if she had just been away for a while. These dreams made me wake-up feeling terrible.

Nearly every night. It used to unnerve me, not so much anymore. Luckily I took the opportunities to make peace with both of my parents and my sister before they died. The one that still haunts me is my dead ex-wife. I never really got a chance to tell her I was sorry for divorcing her lying ass.

My first impression of the Trumps was excessive tackiness. Their casinos had gold, brass, marble, mismatched colors...basically everything one associates with a Vegas casino. Until Trump showed up, the NJ casinos were overall very subdued by comparison.

I don't believe in the supernatural per se so caveat emptor: When my father died his cat who always slept on his bed, would not enter his bedroom (he died at home). I had vivid dreams of him still being alive every night and would wake up confused for a second and then quite distressed. One night the dreams stopped and I woke up greatly relieved. That very same day his cat was blissfully napping on my father's bed.

I don’t believe in magic either, but sometimes I think cats do.

In my story, people did use his idea.

My dad passed about 10 years ago. I found manila envelopes filled with the flaps from envelopes cut in half. I found this strange until I found some of my dad's papers. Starting in paperwork from 1963, I found tax forms and rough drafts of letters and other documents where he took one of the half flaps, licked it, stuck it on the paper, and wrote a note on it.

My dad invented stick notes 15 years before 3M came out with them. He could have been a millionaire but didn't know it.

I think the cat might have been smelling your dad's scent on things. Animals also mourn. Right after Andre, our poodle, passed away, Pepe would still try to get him to come out to try to take treats from him and would wait by the door for him. If you uttered Andre's name, Pepe would get excited. When in each instance he realized there was no Andre, he would actually lay down and look depressed. Over time, he started coming out of it. I think part of it all was he could smell Andre's presence everywhere, but could not understand why he could not see him. Or maybe he did understand it.
