    13th Floor Elivators

So……I was watching the Austin episode of Sonic Highways the other night and they focused quite a bit on this band. Although I have heard of them I have never explored their stuff. What I heard in the documentary I was quite impressed with. I am guessing there are some folks here who are familiar with their stuff. What should I check out?

All of it. There are only three studio albums. I prefer Easter Everywhere to the debut. It's a little more focused and polished. Bull of the Woods barely features Erickson but is still pretty good. The live albums, from what I've heard, aren't worth getting. I could be wrong on that though.

    Everything has recently been reissued.

I really like their music except for the electric jug, which I find so annoying that I don't listen to them.

Hey Steve - all of the elevators you need right here

And if you're diggin that move onto Roky Erickson's solo albums, especially the stuff reissued on Light In The Attic records (Don't Slander Me, Gremlins Have Pictures, The Evil One), it's a goldmine.

As for the electric jug, i absolutely love it - don't like the jug, then you don't like the Elevators, simple as that

    Easter Everywhere.

Quite the landmark, and one of the most memorable non-Californian US psych albums overall.

Does every one of their songs and albums feature the electric jug?

^ Good question. I think it's on most, if not all of them.... To find out, their albums can be heard on YT, including a supposedly unreleased one. http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...loor+elevators

There's very little, if any, electric jug on Bull of the Woods.
