Obsessing over this track again of late. Man, this is a cool-ass song.

I return to this song again and again like it's part of my yearly migration pattern, or like I'm a salmon returning to the stream of my origin.

I find a terrifying beauty on display here, the American Dream™ gone all f'n wrong despite so much promise, outward success underscored by private agony and abuse, unheard of excess, and ultimately a man dying because he needed hospital grade anesthesia or he couldn't otherwise sleep.

Of course there's all the other MJ personal issues and I'm not gonna open that can of worms (so to speak).

But this vocal? Get the fuck out. I mean, seriously -- get the fuck out of here. This is unreal. Don't even get me started on the music, or the killer bassline and guitars.

MJ improvises a bit over the outro and foreshadows what later became some of his vocal trademarks -- the tics, the whooo's, things he made famous in songs like "Billy Jean".

I do hope you take a moment to enjoy this; I can't hear it without an undercurrent of profound sorrow.

^^Love that album, especially the title-track. Still have the LP, which was collectors item in the LP-age already I think.
Keyboardplayer Tommy Eyre did some great things after this with amongst others John Martyn.

Mirror System (Steve Hillage + Miquette Giraudy from Gong), playing a special Deep Underwater Glissando Exploration employing elements of the 1978 "Green" album, leading to a trip on the Ether Ships to the celestial Mirror Beach before engaging the Mirror System to deliver more danceable grooves, live at InSpiral Lounge, Camden, London, 14/06/2014.

Every once in a while a song comes up in my rotation that makes everything stop.
Just the song for a couple of minutes.
I saw this line up a couple of times. It was magic.
