Does it really matter whether "defo" is an abbreviation, or just slang? You must admit, it does sound like the kind of word an AC/DC fan-person would use.

Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally

I think they use "defo" because they can't figure out how to spell "definitely".

Google for "definitely" and you get 68 million hits.
Google for "definately" and you get 43.5 million hits.

40% of people get it wrong IN A SPECIFIC WAY.

    10.9 million hits for "definetley"

I habitually and chronically misspell "defintely", but not that way. It's a bane of my life. I think it's to do with how the letters fall on the keybaord. (sic)

So, yeah, whatever. There has been so little info about this that I can't get any take on what is really going on. Sounds like a bunch of bull but I really don't know.

I hate when English people misspell "what's" as "wots." That really sticks in my craw.

I call this phenomenon a "typeworm". It's a typing error that you know you tend to make, but somehow your fingers seem have the typo hardwired into them.

My usual typeworm is "frist" for "first".

Don't you hate that. When they try to say "wot's" and omit the apostrophe.

Piggybacking on the "pronunciation" thread. Rufus is from the UK, no? Murrakins have a stereotyped view of people from the UK. We assume that people from "England" all speak perfect, impeccable, proper English.......

I mistakenly thought that Floyd had omitted the apostrophe. But that's only a minor, intentional punctuation lapse - nice try at getting "revenge" though!

Actually, we here in 'Murica speak the Kings English, or so the linguists would tell you. The English spoken across the pond was corrupted in Victorian Era(IIRC) and our English is actually closer to what they spoke back in the day.

Yeah, I've actually looked it up. Someday, I may get a life and do something productive. Until then, enjoy your AC/DC thread about language. Don't look at me that funny way, either, I didn't derail this thread into a language discussion.

    Just saying, is all.
