You didn't explicitly state what base the number 10 is in Some people work in base 12 and base 13. And some just use free-base.

    Hello There Folks -

Haven't posted much in recent times....but want to ease myself back into the mix here!

Regarding this thread, here are my ten I'd grab (1989 and newer) to get me through after whatever disaster comes about.

With no specific order in significance but to mention that my choices have had the same 'wow factor' as many of my 'pre 1989' artists had given me!

    1. Club Foot Orchestra - Presents Sherlock JR.
    2. Ed Palermo Big Band - Oh! No not Jazz!
    3. Paris Combo - Living Room
    4. Flower Kings - Back in the World of Adventures
    5. Steven Wilson - The Raven who refused to Sing
    6. Thinking Plague - In this Life
    7. Brian Wilson - Smile
    8. Hamster Theatre - Carnival Detournement
    9. After Crying - Overground Music
    10. William D. Drake - Rising of the Lights

Man! I could go for ten more as well......

    Are they all 'Pprog'????

well, the OP didnt call it 'Top 10 Symph albums post 89'
there are many styles of Prog(ressive Rock music) and many of us count Fusion as one of the many styles.
That's why I didnt only list Symph. I included Avant, Fusion, Spacerock, etc.
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

There's plenty of folks that don't consider fusion to be prog. I don't really care to debate the issue, I've got you for that.

and there's plenty of people who dont consider Avant or Spacerock to be Prog... that's their problem. As for me, having been there, I consider (beginning in the late 60s) all forms of combining Rock music with other music styles in progressive ways to be part of the worldwide Prog(ressive Rock music) movement. Had Jazz Rock started a decade before Symph Rock then perhaps there would be a reason not to consider them part of the same musical movement.

You're preaching to the choir, bro! When I first came to PE, I was surprised to discover that a lot of proggers don't like fusion. In the early '70s, I never thought of The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return To Forever and Weather Report as belonging to a different genre as Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant and King Crimson (aside from noticing there was more improvisation in the former than in the latter). It was all just great creative music that mixed rock, jazz and classical elements. I was already into rock, jazz and classical music by that point and I thought it was really cool that they were all cross-breeding. I had no idea there was musical segregation amongst it all until much later.

But I've learned a lot about people's musical tastes from a decade of PE. Arguing the point has gotten old and fruitless, so when people ask for a list of prog this or that, I try to think about what they mean when they say "prog" and be compliant, because I do like a fair share of that which is generally considered as such. There are enough folks here that are into jazz and/or fusion, so I can talk about that stuff with them, thankfully! If it wasn't for them, I might feel a little like a don't belong here. But I do... I think.

I'm not gonna try and figure out whether or not they have a limited viewpoint or not. I like both Symph Rock and Jazz Rock equally and they are equally part of the experience I lived through in the 70s and equally Prog to me and a bunch of other Prog fans. I see no need to try and figure out if the person asking about Prog expects everyone to think Symph when they say Prog. If they mean 'Symph only' they should say Symph.
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

How can fusion possibly not be prog? Never imagined anyone ever entertained such a foolish notion. Like saying the cardinal isn't Catholic just 'cause he's not the pope.

    Anyway, I'll try this:

    Brian Wilson - Smile
Steve Hackett - To Watch The Storms
Flower Kings - Flower Power (disc one)
    Jade Warrior - Now
Cirrus Bay - The Search For Joy
Sanguine Hum - The Weight of the World
    Knifeworld - The Unraveling
    Glass Hammer - If
    Camel - Nod & A Wink
    Steve Howe - Turbulence

Wow, my last Gnosis 13 dates from.... 2008...
