I'm much more a Rush fan than a Dream Theater fan, but I don't agree with this statement. For me, stuff like Presto, Test For Echo, and Snakes & Arrows are albums that are as weak as the weakest DT albums.

My first impression of DT was sort of Yes-meets-Metallica.

Well, I completely disagree. All of those Rush albums have some redeeming qualities. BC&SL and SC from Dream Theater are total dreck, IMO.
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally

They all have reasonably good artwork.

I have a copy of Dream Theater performing all of DSOTM live. It's not as good as the Floyd's, but it is good. since this is a comparison thread, just recently I heard some 'classic' Judas Priest and Rob Halford's vibrato is more cartoonish than James Labrie's. So now it's easier for me to listen to Labrie sing.
