    Brand X remastered

Just saw this link on amazon.co.uk. All Brand X Charisma albums remastered and spread over 4 CD's with 3 bonus tracks. Out November 3rd. This is one of those chunky jewel case packages that EMI/Virgin have done for the likes of Tangerine Dream, Gentle Giant and Be Bop Deluxe.

I like these packages...the bonus tracks are the BBC session from 1976, which is a good thing ! Might have to shell out for this...

..and it is only 14 pounds for the four discs. I will have to do an amazon UK order if the US amazon is far higher (which it typically is...).

Did they switch the tracks around??

Do you know that for a fact? Some of them seem to match up with Missing Period. Maybe "Kubit Blitz" is a typo of "Kugel Blitz". edit: maybe it's this? ( http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/brand-...d-3cfa9ef.html )

What a lousy cover. There isn't even a rear end.

Thanks for the tip -I wondered if anyone was going to get around to reissuing these -I thought it would be Esoteric if anyone did. Anyway at this price I'll replace the CD-Rs I made from my vinyl copies quite happily.

Yeah thanks for the tip. I just ordered. The original CD releases were anemic at best.

It looks like they didn't put just one album on each disk.

What do you mean? That's obviously a giant a--hole on the cover.

Now that you mention it, it almost looks like that's what it says.

Not atypical....they minimize the number of discs but they do go sequentially through the albums (at least, they have in the past), so if you're ripping, it's not hard to break them out into the separate albums.

As for the cover? I don't care. I'm just happy these are finally getting remastered, assuming the job is good...those old CDs are, indeed, anemic...just listened today after placing my order.

This is all about the mastering. The original CD releases were quite dull, and the Japanese re-issues sounded like the same masters were used, but with modest compression to increase nothing but the volume. It also depends upon the state and quality of the source stereo tapes for this new release. I was disappointed by the 2006 Japanese releases, so I can only hope this project is given the same quality control that the BBD boxed sets received.

Well the promo says: "The albums the band recorded for Virgin records in one package complete with three tracks previously unreleased from sessions recorded for the BBC", which I am assuming are The Ancient Mysteries/Kubil Blitz/Born Ugly recorded in Feb 1976. `Missing Period' was an unauthorized issue of the BBC tracks wasn't it ?

    There were two Peel sessions:

but your assumption is backed up by the Amazon track-listings.
It will be the Feb 1976 session towards the end of disc 1.

It appeared that Brand X may have made one of the worse record deals ever in regards to rights, royalties for their recordings or any control over future re-releases of their earlier material. Though I am looking forward to this addition with the Bonus material and hopefully a nice set of re-masters, but I hope the members of the band receive something for it.

I listened yesterday to Masques and Do they Hurt - and I think they sound fine - plenty of punch and dynamics maybe lack a bit warmth and low end balls
I hope the don't overly compress or brighten them ...

Surely, that's not the actual cover?

otherwise known as a standard record contract. 99% of bands signed the same kind of deal. Only a very few have any say over the reissue or curation of their work sadly.
