Went to (the) Melvins show last night. Wound up chatting briefly with a guy who noticed my Magma t-shirt. He clued me into Monolord. Definitely a band I should check out, right?
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.
An uneven band, that gets a bit monotonous and repetitive in textures, usually making me lose interest halfway through their albums. I'm always taking them in small bits and rarely revisit. Their first three albums sound more "muddy" and are the ones to prioritise while visiting their discography. Their debut and Vænir are in my opinion their best. Their last, Your Time To Shine, is their weakest offer, to my ears.
Does anyone remember Tarantula Hawk from San Diego? They released a handful of fairly interesting CDs between 2000 and 2004 merging droney and aggressive space-rock cacophony with faint traces of Zeuhl in overarching structure and in time went consequently into connections with SubArachnoid Space, Yeti, Great Tyrant and a couple of other darkly minded sets of combos. For some reason, Monolord always reminded me a bit of THawk, sometimes even of the early, more lo-fi-noisy and chaotic Guapo stuff.

I am so fucking happy that this thread exists. Doom and Prog are my two favorite things!
^ I'm not a fan of Doom, or any Metal really, but I like that. Ordered.
German band on a classic early 90s take on doom with a slightly modernized vibe.
Mournful occult doom in the great italian horror rock tradition. Just out!
Great anatolian psyched out doom from this Greek/UK duet, currently based in Leeds.
Ahab, Cathedral, and Candlemass are probably the doomiest stuff I listen to. All great.
Recent discovery for me...great voice and vibe.
Not an expert in this matter, but I guess it's oké to mention this second album by the Dutch psychedelic doom-band Gula, Birds Of The Apocalypse.
Personally I also hear 80s Gothic, early Cure and My Dying Bride, but like I wrote: I'm not an expert.
