Not really prog at all, but IMO two songs from the English folk realm as well as the Celtic music scene comes to mind. First is the haunting rendition of the old Scottish poem "Tam Lin" sung by the late Sandy Denny while she was in Fairport Convention. Oldest reference to the poem goes back to the Middle Ages, but the words and story reveal that the symbolism goes even further back to pre-Christian, Celtic times. The poem takes place on Halloween, and hearing Sandy singing this still gives me goosebumps, even though it's 45 years old. The other song is "All Souls Night " penned by Canadian Celtic singer Loreena McKennitt, another great song about the ancient Celtic holiday. Not prog, but still a worthy listen.
Day dawns dark...it now numbers infinity.

Helloween - Straight Out of Hell ...not prog, but a great melodic metal song nonetheless.

Good one. This one doesn't have a Halloween title but the tone of the song and the subject matter is pretty scary/upsetting: House on Mars by Ayreon. Plus take your pick out of Alan Parsons Tales and Mystery of the Imagination.

Pulsar's "Halloween" is the obvious choice, with the name, the rather dark tone, and even the spooky child "la-la-ing" the melody to Danny Boy at the beginning.

Pallas' "Ripper" is a good one too. Disturbing lyrics, and a terrific arrangement (great mellotron work)

    Mussorgsky's "Night On Bald Mountain"

21st Century Schizoid Man would always get played on Halloween on the local Classic Rock Station

And pretty much everything The Red Masque has put out.

    Beggars Opera - The Witch.
Always like playing Pink Floyd Echoes really loud in the house when the trick or treaters show up at my door. Scares the beejesus out of them.

DOA used to scare the &*^% out of me when I was a kid. Another great Halloween piece to listen to in the dark is the Beatles Revolution 9

    Try The Marble Index.

And those Helloween clips; I remember having their albums in the 80s and seeing them live at Roskilde - BOY were they beyond awful.

    The Stranglers- Waltz in Black
I can't place anything from memory, but Kevin Ayers likely has something appropriate

Thanks for this! I can see where Goldsmith got his inspiration for The Omen soundtrack (which is a good Halloween disc by the way).

The Kevin Ayers Confessions of Dr. Dream and T. Dream Sorcerer soundtrack work for me...there's gobs of Art Zoyd that also might be good, same w/ UZ. Throbbing Gristle / Hamburger Lady and the Ligeti Requiem above should reduce the amount of candy you'll be handing out.

Le Festin is a good album, but I think Laz is more dark and scary.
