Well, Focus did four great albums and then flamed out hard.

there are *extremely few* bands that did not start either repeating themselves or running out of ideas by their 5th album

a more interesting thread would be "bands that kept getting better after their 4th album"
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

I have to agree with Wire. However they have been churning out some decent music recently.

Great album, just like Jumbo and Merry-Go-Round.

Course, Boston had been around almost 20 years before they made their 4th album, so it was a good run...

You could say their pattern repeated itself-- a great run with Ideal Copy, Bell Is a Cup and IBTABA, then a complete dud with Manscape. Looks like the current incarnation is due for a bad album next time.

Ambrosia - not that Life Beyond LA or 180 are bad, but they are a far cry from the prog of their first two releases.

Does it matter that this waste of time is what makes a life for you?

Road Island was a comeback for them, I felt, artistically speaking. Not a return to prog (though “Ice Age” has its proggy moments, and “Endings” has a section in 11), more a detour into more rock influenced territory (save for “Feeling Alive Again” and the aforementioned “Endings”). Definitely more respectable than the previous two “sell-out” releases had been, in any case.
