Top 10 All Intrumental Prog Albums

Just like the subject says albums with no vocals or spoken words - like Bruford's Mock Turtle speech before Fainting in Coils or Zappa's dialog sections of Civilization Phaze III

    Tangerine Dream - Phaedra
    Fonya - Earth Shaper
    SFF - Symphonic Pictures
Gryphon - Red Queen to Gryphon's Three
Steve & John Hackett - Sketches of Satie
Heldon - Un Reve Consequence Speciale
    Klaus Schulze - Picture Music
    Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygene
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds of Fire
    Morte Macabre - Symphonic Holocaust
Tomita - Pictures at an Exhibition

I don't think "instrumental prog" and "synthesizer albums" are the same thing.

I immediately knew there was going to be some genre disputes after the original post, not only because of what you just said, but also because many here don't consider fusion to be prog. Maybe it isn't; I don't know or care. But my list will disregard all of that.
Off the top of my head:

Chick Corea and RTF - Hymn of the Seventh Galay
Bruford - One of a Kind
    Kenso - Yume Na Oka
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Inner Mounting Flame (I actually prefer VotEB, but it has vocals)
Jan Hammer - The First Seven Days (actually closer to symph prog than fusion)
    Tribal Tech - Spears
    Lyle Workman - Harmonic Crusader
Steve Vai - Passion and Warfare
Ben Monder - Oceana (hmm, do "wordless vocals" count?)
    Symphony X - Moon Babies

Then you don't have to put any on your list

I can't think of 10 right now, but Mike Keneally's Evidence Of Humanity is the best thing I've heard in the past five years.
And credit to Marco M. for the amazing drum track.

    Anthony Phillips - 1984
    David Bedford - The Odyssey
Any number of Vangelis albums: China, Mask, Soil Festivities, Antarctica (not Bladerunner, which I think has some spoken word in it)
    Most Tangerine Dream albums

Agreed, it's great, but Alex Machacek's music to the same drum tracks is equally amazing (in fact I like it a little more, much as I love MK)! The album is called "24 Tales;" very much worth checking out!

Cool thread idea. Well, right off (without constricted notions of what is prog) I'll say:

    Tony Banks - Six
    Kenso - Yume No Oka
    Kenso - Sparta
    Anthony Phillips - Slow Dance
    Anthony Phillips - Soiree
Bo Hansson - Lord of the Rings
    Bo Hansson - Magician's Hat
    Anglagard - Viljans Oga
Lotus - S/T (the swedish release from around 1975)
Gryphon - Red Queen To Gryphon Three

Pretty sure none of those have any vocals.

Chris's post just reminded me that Helmet Of Gnats s/t is one of my favorites of the past 10 years.
I played that CD over and over for about three years!

And for an old favorite I'll mention Unsung Heroes by the Dregs.

I liked Helmet of Gnats "High Street" a little better, but they're both quite good!

And how could I forget The Dregs?! My favorite is "Dregs of the Earth," but they never made a bad album.

Wut? Queues has Greaves crooning all through Pyle's "Binoculars", and Hans even sees three-part vocal harmonies in the title track!

    All fantastic stuff, tho.

Some of these have been mentioned, but a quick scan of my own collection bring these to mind (I'm sure there are others that I have too, as well as many many many I don't have!):

    Anglagard ~ Epilog
    Anglagard ~ Viljans Oga
The Enid ~ In the Region of the Summer Stars
    Dun ~ Eros
    Guapo ~ Five Suns
    Kotebel ~ Concerto....
    Jean Michel Jarre ~ Oxygene
    Banco ~ Di Terra
Pat Methany ~ The Way Up
    Kenso ~ II
    Camel ~ Snow Goose

    I know, I know...call it a "baker's ten"

Yeah, that was the only reason I didn't include that stuff on my list, or Tubular Bells for that matter. All great stuff though.

D'oh. forgot about the latest Kotebel. Too many great ones to narrow to 10.

    something like this:
(after restricting it to one album per musician or band)

    Boud Deun - Stolen Bicycle
    Bruford Levin Upper Extremities
The Trey Gunn Band - The Joy of Molybdenum
Steve Rothery - Ghosts of Pripyat
    Iris - Crossing the Desert
Al Di Meola - Elegant Gypsy
Return to Forever - Romantic Warrior
    Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
David Torn - Cloud About Mercury
    Änglagård - Epilog

If Epilog has some vocals and doesn't qualify, replace it with:
Brian Eno, Jah Wobble - Spinner

^ Tubular Bells has spoken word on it though(the naming of the instruments part). The snowgoose has wordless vocals but but I suppose that's not a big deal. Surprised no one has mentioned "Six wives" yet.
