    The best Scottish artists/bands

The Jocks have been getting plenty of Media attention this past week due to the referendum on independence from the UK [they voted to remain part of the Union]

Who do you think are the best Scottish artists/bands?

    Here's mine....

AC/DC's Wikipedia page might tell you they're from Australia, but Angus and Malcolm Young were born in Scotland, and the band's original singer Bon Scott (RIP) came from Forfar - they had neeps and tatties in their blood.

    Simple Minds

    Annie Lennox

    Fish

    Texas

    Biffy Clyro

    Twin Atlantic

    Can't think of any others????

There are probably lots of others I like without knowing they are Scottish. From this side of the world, there is no big thing made of the fact that someone is from scotland, as opposed to England or Wales. We think of them as "from the UK".

Errr... if there's any dispute about AC/DC, I'll let the Scots claim them if they wish.

Citizen Cain (also known as Xitizen Xain) is one of my favorites. Cyrus, the cranky lead singer, is pure Scotland.

The Shulman brothers stem from the jewish neighbourhood of the Gorbals in Glasgow, rendering Gentle Giant part Scottish.

    The Incredible String Band.

John Martyn was the greatest Scottish songwriter of the post-war period, although he probably doesn't count since he wasn't actually born there. Bet Jansch most definitely was, though.

Beggar's Opera had three fairly fine "symph" rock albums from there.

Oh, and that Fish fella may be as Scottish as a bag of Haggis, but that never saved the guy's songwriting abilities.
