Jeff Lynne's ELO live BBC2 In The Park 2014

Yep, an almost 90 minute set of the man from Birmingham with his friend Richard Tandy on keyboards backed by an ace band (with some familiar faces from proggy circles) and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Have watched it for a large part and am struck by Lynne's humble demeanour and genuine surprise at the crowd's reaction. Also I think some interesting song choices.

I had no idea...thanks for the post, that link is dead, this one works:
"Henry Cow always wanted to push itself, so sometimes we would write music that we couldn't actually play – I found that very encouraging." - Lindsay Cooper, 1998
"I have nothing to do with Endless River. Phew! This is not rocket science people, get a grip." - Roger Waters, 2014
"I'm a collector. And I've always just seemed to collect personalities." - David Bowie, 1973

    3 early observations:

he hasn't changed a bit, has he? good on him!
a song from “xanadu” as the opener. ok.
skip to 4:30 to spare yourself from chris evans’ unbearable jabbering.

encore observation: this is not ELO. it is “mr. blue sky – the musical”. nice to watch, though!

PS (edit): iT BiTES’ (et al.) mr. poms on bass!

I had no idea Brigitte Neilsen played the violin.

What a production. That must have cost a pretty pound.

I seriously had to double check that this was a 2014 performance. Someone find that aging picture in his attic.

a song from “xanadu” as the opener. ok.
Whatever one thinks of the movie, the songs are awesome, including the title track. There, I said it.

FYI, Mick Wilson (10CC, Three Friends) on backing vocals and percussion.

    I'm with ya, Thomas.
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally

Hair dye and large glasses can do wonders.

It was fab--Jeff is well known as a bit of an awkward devil--but he came over really well here. In fact I enjoyed it so much I watched it twice, dont care if it was a bit cheesy, I would def pay to go to this.

And Lee Pomeroy, last seen touring with Steve Hackett on bass.

    Gossip alert!!

I thought it was Lee Pomeroy. But I heard this was Take That's whole backing band used for this show and of course Lee Pomeroy is part of that anyway.
