Joan Rivers was taken off life-support and died peacefully today according to a statement issued by her daughter Melissa. An incredibly smart and funny person has left us at the tender young age of 81.

I did not like everything she did, but no doubt one of the greatest female comedians of all time.
Should have had surgery at a hospital and not a clinic at her age.
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF STUPID PEOPLE IN LARGE GROUPS!
Sad news indeed. I didn't care for her that much but I know she had many many fans and they will miss her.
she was a tough broad till the end. RIP
She was funny back in the day. a pioneer, really.
Her Body finally caught up with her career...!
Never a huge fan... but a fan. Having said that LOVED her on Howard! ... and she was great on Carson!!
She had her fans, she had her detractors. But, dammit, she was in The Swimmer. One of my all time fave movies and for that alone, I bid her a fond adieu. RIP Joan.
What kind of procedure was she having in a clinic?
Her R-rated/blue comic deliveries were nasty and hilarious. She was one of the very first female ball-busters - - - RIP.
I highly recommend the documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work. I think fans and detractors alike would at least be entertained by it. It really gave me a new appreciation for her.
RIP Joan Rivers. As soon as I heard they put her in a medically induce coma I didn't have a good feeling about it.
The endoscopy was only a diagnostic procedure to see if they could find anything wrong with her vocal chords, it was not an actual operation. She had a heart attack while undergoing the procedure. The heart attack did not kill her but I suppose it led to her deterioration and need to be put into a medically induced coma.
RIP

Unique. Tough as hell. Funny. Missed. Can we talk?
My understanding, from not really following the story, is that she stopped breathing during the endoscopic procedure, where they snake a long flexible tube with a camera on the end down into her throat to get a look at her vocal cords. She may have gagged, she may have been under a local or even a general anesthetic, don't know. The clinic staff tried to get her breathing again, during which time her heart stopped. No idea how long she wasn't breathing, or without a heartbeat, but it sounds like more than they should have let it go on. The fear at the hospital was that she'd suffered irreversible brain damage, which is why they put her in a medically-induced coma. When she hadn't improved in a couple days the family made the decision to remove life support. She died immediately afterward.
Sad, she was an icon. I wasn't her biggest fan but I respect anyone with that much energy at 81. From what I've read offstage she was a really nice woman.
This timeline can be found in her memorial service column from today- http://7online.com/entertainment/joa...hattan/294407/

The Medical Examiners Office performed an autopsy, but they have more questions as well. **
I would have loved to have heard Howard Stern's opening tribute at today's service, something about her vagina.

I used to tolerate Joan Rivers back in the day. She was very funny. Then she became a plastic cartoon of herself and was, basically, a freak. In recent years, her humor became far too hateful. Yet, when called out on it, she would get all worked up. Well, sorry, Joan, you said it, now you have to stand by it.
I'll wish her an RIP. But, I really won't miss her.
