Genesis Announce New Band Logo and Prepare For a "Special Announcement"

Genesis have posted their new band logo (pictured right) and claim to have a special announcement that will be revealed tomorrow. If you want to be surprised, then don't read on... The band plan to release R-Kive, a new specially priced 3-disc, 37-track set that is comprised of popular songs by Genesis and its members as solo acts including Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett and Mike Rutherford (Mike and The Mechanics). Collectively, they have sold more than 300 million albums, and this set spans 42 years of the group's music history.

Chronologically ordered, the set includes Genesis hits like "Invisible Touch", "Turn It On Again", "Land of Confusion" and "I Can't Dance" along side of Mike and the Mechanics' tunes like "Living Years" and "Over My Shoulder" (the latter of which was a hit in Europe), Phil Collins' classics including "In the Air Tonight" and "Easy Lover" (featuring Philip Bailey) and Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill" and "Biko" among others. This is the first sanctioned Genesis compilation to feature solo projects. R-Kive is tentatively set for a September 29, 2014 release in the UK (via Universal Music) to coincide with the broadcast of the BBC Genesis: Together and Apart Documentary coming this autumn (see the June News Section of this site for details on the BBC documentary). A full track listing and more details should be available tomorrow as part of the official band announcement. For those in the rumor mill, don't hold your breath for a reunion tour announcement. That will not be part of the announcement tomorrow.

...The more exciting news (if you're a collins fan) is this (also from WOG):

Early Details On Phil Collins' Band Rehearsals In Florida

As previously reported, Leeland Sklar revealed that Phil Collins had called several members of his touring band to head down to the Miami, Florida area to rehearse for some possible future gigs (go to the June News Section for details on Sklar's comments and a video). We now also know from Phil Collins' Drum Tech Brad Marsh's posts on social media that the rehearsals started earlier this week and will continue until September 6, 2014. Some of Marsh's posts have since been removed, but it was confirmed that the horn section is not present for these initial rehearsals and, as we already know, Chester has been replaced by Jason Bonham on drums. Pictures taken at the rehearsals by Marsh show a second drum kit along with Bonham's kit. This leads us to believe that *perhaps* Phil is playing a little drums in these rehearsals after all? Of course, that's not officially confirmed by anyone, so take that for what it's worth. Marsh reported that Phil was in "good spirits," so let's hope that means rehearsals are going well and we can look forward to news of a tour in the coming months

An announcement for the new logo?

    And that logo is announcement-worthy?

This compilation will fit nicely into the collections of many pop fans of Genesis/Collins/Gabriel. This could also help bridge the prog-to-pop gap for some; they may discover some of the older, proggier material and enjoy it. What's wrong with that?

Quoted for truth. Compilations, by their very nature, are generally not designed for the hard core, uber-fan. This is a relatively inexpensive three disc set, from 1970 up to the present day (a Banks compilation from his recent classical album), that may expose some people to music they haven't heard before.

If you're looking for rare rehearsal tapes from Wind & Wuthering, you won't find them on this set. Because that's not what it's about.

If this doesn't have "Harlequin" and "You'll Be In My Heart", I'm not buying it.

My real-life persona left a comment this morning guessing that it was another box set. The comment was promptly deleted by the admin of that account.
