Hey, you can make any category you choose, it's all music!

Back in my 70's teenage day (I am 53 now), we didn't distinguish between prog and hard rock at all. It was all filed together in the record store, sometimes labelled "Progressive", sometimes "Contemporary" other times "Rock". I grew up loving all of the classic bands, but my gravitational pull was towards the more proggy (as we define it here), but once again it's all music, just enjoy.

My top ten would be something like this:

    Yes - CTTE
    Genesis - SEBTP
    Camel - The Snow Goose
    Gong - Angels Egg
Hatfield & The North - The Rotters Club
    Soft Machine - Third
    Todd Rundgren - AWATS
    Gentle Giant - Octopus
    Caravan - ITLOGAP
    King Crimson - Red
    VDGG - Pawn Hearts

Not that strange, considering the opening post.

And that's what you get. Not everyone has the same big 10.

Personally, I realised that people weren't taking this thread seriously when I read post #8. Five artists I've never heard of, 3 that I've heard of but never listened to and Budgie!!! Really, Budgie?

The only band in that list that could possibly come anywhere even remotely close to any Big 10 is Nektar!

It's about each persons personal big 10. I don't really care that much for the well-known progbands, so they are not it my PERSONAL big 10.

I did read it, otherwise I wouldn't have replied now would I?
Big 10, even a personal big 10, should in some way reflect 10 BIG prog bands. Not 10 that most people have never heard of!
Big 10 shouldn't just be a list of your favourite 10 prog bands, which for me is exactly what #8 is.

Why on earth should a personal big 10 have to reflect some designated prog big 10? Univers Zero are easily one of the most important bands in my collection but I'm meant to leave them off my personal list due to not being a big prog band?
