Re-Buying the Classics, Physical Product: a 5.1 Collection

I found that I have been slowly re-buying all much of the classic 70s albums as 5.1s. If they are not re-issued as 5.1s I won't re-buy them And if the 5.1 is ONLY available as part of a very costly boxed set (Who, Brain Salad Surgery), I won't buy it.

Here's what I bought so far:

Genesis: 70-75, Wind and Wuthering, Trick of the Tail, And Then There Were Three
Yes: Close to the Edge, Yes Album (on order, arriving in August).
King Crimson: All of the 40th anniversary sets reissue to date, including the Red and Larks boxes
Mike Oldfield: all of the reissues except the one recent one that had no 5.1 because the tapes were missing
Jethro Tull: Benefit, Thick as a Brick, Passion Play (on order, arriving in August)
Gentle Giant: Power and the Glory (on order, arriving in August)
    ELP: ELP, Tarkus

It seems strange to re-buy al these as physical product in 2014, having already owned them for many years. But 5.1 as physical product + decent price = a great marketing strategy.

Call me a very satisfied customer. Pink Floyd? the Who? Brain Salad? Those are cash grabs, pure and simple Boo for making the 5.1s available only as part of a BIG expensive box. I won't bite.

There's a lot to learn from Genesis, Crimson, Oldfield, Tull, Yes, Giant. They're doing it right.

Any thing missing from my collection?

    Faves of mine -

Beatles - Love -wish they would do more of the their catalogue
Tony Banks - Curious Feeling - not sure if it's available any more
    Caravan - Grey and Pink
ELP - BSS - I picked it up as part of the reasonable priced re-issue a couple of years ago - not sure if that one is still out there
Jethro Tull - Aqualung - it was expensive but great to hear it in the surround mix
    Pink Floyd - Dark Side
Steely Dan - Gaucho - wish they'd do Royal Scam

not reissues but I like the No-Man, Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson ones a lot - Deadwing and Raven... in surround are particularly great

That's in SUPER STEREO!!! Doesn't look like 5.1

Pink Floyd is selling the Division Bell 5.1 as a standalone. It's out of stock now but usually comes back every few days.

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms SACD. What was once a great recording to show off the quality of a CD in the 80s is now made even better in surround sound. Would be great to see Love Over Gold get the same treatment.

Just curious, which Bjork and how does it sound is 5.1?

I love the T Heads in surround, they all sound great!

...and as long as we are on the T's---one of these days I'm going to find the surround of T Rex's "Electric Warrior" at a manageable price.

The pure audio blu-ray version of Quadrophenia is very impressive. The 5.1 mix is very tastefully done without an overuse of the middle channel like other mix's are guilty of. I'm specifically thinking of Bowies "Stages" here.

The 5.1 format is the only thing I'll buy a physical product of at this point so...thank you for this thread!

All of bjork, up to volta are available in surround.
You can buy them individually or the first 7 in this box:

    http://www.amazon.com/Surrounded-Dua.../dp/B000FOQ0L4

My most favourite of them is Medulla since it was intended for 5.1 and done in the same time of the actual release.
But all are nice and discrete.

RE the T-Rex - Yeah, its pretty rare and expensive these days...
Which reminds me of an excellent surround box set which is on its way to me and is super expensive too:
    David Sylvian - Manafon

And another one that I was reminded of from a different thread here - Lhistoire de Melody Nelson by Serge Gainsbourgh.
Though this one does suffer from "too much happening in the center channel" which is a shame as it is a great album that could have been spread very nicely.
