I found that I have been slowly re-buying all much of the classic 70s albums as 5.1s. If they are not re-issued as 5.1s I won't re-buy them And if the 5.1 is ONLY available as part of a very costly boxed set (Who, Brain Salad Surgery), I won't buy it.
Here's what I bought so far:
Genesis: 70-75, Wind and Wuthering, Trick of the Tail, And Then There Were Three
Yes: Close to the Edge, Yes Album (on order, arriving in August).
King Crimson: All of the 40th anniversary sets reissue to date, including the Red and Larks boxes
Mike Oldfield: all of the reissues except the one recent one that had no 5.1 because the tapes were missing
Jethro Tull: Benefit, Thick as a Brick, Passion Play (on order, arriving in August)
Gentle Giant: Power and the Glory (on order, arriving in August)
ELP: ELP, Tarkus
It seems strange to re-buy al these as physical product in 2014, having already owned them for many years. But 5.1 as physical product + decent price = a great marketing strategy.
Call me a very satisfied customer. Pink Floyd? the Who? Brain Salad? Those are cash grabs, pure and simple Boo for making the 5.1s available only as part of a BIG expensive box. I won't bite.
There's a lot to learn from Genesis, Crimson, Oldfield, Tull, Yes, Giant. They're doing it right.
Any thing missing from my collection?
