    RIP Dick Wagner

Growing up in Michigan he started out with The Frost who never gained much of a national following, but was huge here in the state. He then moved on to Lou Reed’s band (“Rock n Roll Animal”) which morphed into Alice Coopers backup band. He was actually back with Alice a couple of years ago when I saw him in Grand Rapids MI. One of Michigan's all time great musicians. RIP........

I had been hearing that Dick's health was fragile. So sorry to hear about his passing. Between The Frost, Lou Reed and Alice Cooper, he definitely left his mark on rock & roll. Rest In Peace, Dick Wagner.

Rest in peace, Mr. Wagner. Thanks for all the great rock and roll.

From what I understand, he wrote the music to a lot of Alice Cooper's songs.

This Hunter/Wagner intro is one of the finest live statements in the history of Rock music.

Before he was with Reed, he led Frost, out of Detroit area, another great early psych bands. Loved those guys. RIP, DW.

He & Steve Hunter where a class act with some great twin guitar solo's on AC's albums. He also played on a couple of AC Group albums incl Billion $ Babies due to Glenn Buxton's failing health!

    RIP

    Same here.

Billion Dollar Babies with Steve Hunter was what inspired me to pick up the guitar.

I believe he did a lot of uncredited ( at the time) sub work for Joe Perry and Ace Frehley.

Train kept a Rollin doe not sound like Joe Perry .

I also bought one of his BC Rich Seagulls in the late 70s from 48th street guitars in NYC.

I still have it ....RIP Dick Wagner

    RIP DW

    71 is still too young.

My buddy was working with him on some material he wrote in the last year. Have to find out where they left off.

Fabulous, melodic guitar duo with Steve Hunter. Notable, timeless.

Hunter had been in Mitch Ryder's latter-day band Detroit and had a local hit of Lou Reed's Rock and Roll- So there is a precedent there. Combined with Wagner it sang!

Yup, that solo on "Train Kept A Rollin" is Wagner and not Perry. Wagner just published an autobiography last year where he talks about it. Also, the track is not live. They added the crowd noise after the fact. His book is a very interesting read.

Ok, how do you tell him apart from Hunter in Intro/Sweet Jane?

The book is called "Not Only Women Bleed". It actually came out in 2011 and not last year as I said earlier.
