Do you like Free State (Lawrence, KS), Iron Man Stout? Best I've ever had. Cheers!
This may come as a shock...but I still have several albums from 1969 to get to before I'd be satisfied calling this a final list (I know...right?).
Nice choice.
Hmmm 7 months earlier than my post? Right on tiger.
Thanks, Captain Obvious. You crapped on my Marco Minnemann thread, please don't do it again.
What are you waiting on that will be released in less than 51 days to make a decision?
Not to be picky, but should this thread be released in June of 2020 to give you time to listen and rate the...
Probably because it's a killer album. If you haven't check out his other 16? releases. They are all good. Broken Orange is one of my faves.
What are your top five of the year?
Thieves' Kitchen - Genius Loci
Thank You Scientist- Terraformer
Richard Henshall - The Cocoon
Marco Minnemann - My Sister
The Psychedelic Ensemble -...
The music on this release is insane. On some songs everything seems to fall apart, like everyone is playing a different song. Not an easy listen but well worth the time you put into it. Vocal tunes...
Lets hear about your favorite beers. I'm in KC, Tank 7, a local brew is a great one. Free State Brewery in college town (Lawrence, KS) has some excellent brews.
Do you like IPA's, Stouts, Porters,...
Not one to be missed. Check it out and report back soon.
Great new release. Drumming is amazing. What are your thoughts?
Richard Henshall
Thank You Scientist
Marco Minnemann
Thieves' Kitchen
Antoine Fafard
Lonely Robot
The Aristocrats
Not prog, but John Lennon's "Imagine".
^ Hoping Anthony Jackson recovers. What an incredible talent.
Agree. Her trio albums with Anthony Jackson and Simon Phillips are amazing. Highly recommended.
Do we vote on which is the worst?
The vocalist is not for me, but this is a good album with a great mix to boot.
I agree, mix is harsh. However, I like the music a lot. But I not a fan of the vocalist.
Neal Morse - "Somber Days". So sappy, so yucky.
"Through your somber days when you feel all alone
(All your suffering he has known)
Through your somber days
When you feel like no one cares...
^I agree. Accurate, and I appreciate Frank's lyrics. Thanks for quoting this cause I accidentally deleted it.
Another gem from FZ.
"I coulda swore her hair was made of rayon
She wore a Milton Bradley Crayon
But she was something I could lay on
Can't remember what became of me
Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy"
Zappa had quite a few out there lyrics. Here is "50/50"
"Well, my dandruff is loose
An' my breath is chartreuse
I know I ain't cute
An' my voice is ka-poot
But that's awright people
I'm...
Mike you are much more than prog. You are one of America's greatest composers, and one of my favorite guitar players, right behind Holdsworth of course.
I am honored to be in your presence. Your...
I'm shocked aith01 that I agree with you 100%. "Sluggo" and "Dancing" are my favorite Keneally releases. "Hermit of Mink Hollow" and "Nearly Human" my favorite Rundgren releases. What are your faves?
Robert Wyatt
"This is the first verse
This is the first verse, verse
This is the first, first...
And this is the chorus
Or perhaps it's the bridge
Or just another part
Of the song
That I'm...
Enchant "The Great Divide"
"Can a man know God, or is he just a fantasy
for you and me, one great big lie?
Can his mind be filled with something more than evidence and common sense?
Bridge the...
aith01, it appears every post I make you have to disagree with. You mention everyone hears differently, I agree. Not once have I heard anyone saying that Steely Dan's "Aja" has a bad mix. There are...
So many albums in the last 35 years have been ruined by the mix and or master. I also think that a lot of these musicians are losing their hearing from playing loud all the time. When they hear a...
Is that Waldo on guitar? Did they play a Dregs song?
Antoine Fafard - "Proto Mundi"
Hiromi - "Spark", "Alive", "Move", "Voice"
Big Big Train - "English Electric Part One"
Thieves' Kitchen - "The Clockwork Universe"
Steely Dan - "Aja" and...
Thanks for the positive comments. It saddens me also that this great new prog band is going unnoticed. They deserve better.
Steve, Dave, Neal and Mike are incredible musicians. Compared to what they are capable of... The Dregs, Transatlantic, Spock's Beard, Dream Theater, this music is a total waste of their talents and...
I think it's awful. Such a waste of talent. The singer wants to be a copy of the singer from Muse. And a lot of the songs sound like Muse. Nothing original. The only positive I can say is the mix is...
Glad you enjoyed it. Spread the word. Marco deserves it.
Is the record label or the artist responsible for approving the final mix? Whomever, they should be ashamed of the final product.
For me the music is boring and uses the same formula on every tune... a heavy part followed by acoustic guitar strumming. And the mix is harsh and unpleasant.
Agree. It's amazing how he keeps putting out incredible solo albums every year in addition to everything else he's involved with. He is the Zappa of this generation.
Another fan of The Elektric Band. All their releases are stellar, but "Beneath the Mask" is my fave.
Hope ya'll are enjoying "My Sister" more than this imaginative banter.
Now that we have defined normal prog, maybe you should listen to this release and tell me what you think.
Also, what does "Scrotum Scissor" mean?
Normal prog would be the Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, etc. Not the abnormal prog stuff.
Well buckle up. Killer stuff. What song did you play on? Proud to be a nobody hanging with the pros on this website.
Cheers
This could be my favorite Marco album to date. Not your normal prog. Intense, every song has it's own identity and each one is pushing musical boundaries . Amazing someone could imagine this let...
Just got my disc today. Only have had time for a quick listen and it sounds great. Will devote time tomorrow for an uninterrupted listen.
Anyone else want to share their thoughts on this release?
"Song for America" - Kansas
Agree
Good album. Lot of killer tunes, some filler and some tunes aren't good... "Angles & Exits".
Still worth owning but not as good as "Thanks in Advance"
Just ordered their newest release. Compositions and arrangements are killer.

New Thank You Scientist release has plenty of great prog songs to end the summer.
Glad you like it. I will have to revisit Magic Pie. I had their first album and thought it was ok. Maybe I will pick up their new release.
Shows the age of all the olds on this forum doesn't it?
I like his voice also. I don't care for Geddy Lee's or Peter Nicholls (IQ) voice, but that doesn't stop me from listening to their music. Rush is one of my favorite bands.
Thanks for the update. Love this band. They remind me of National Health (one of my favorite bands). I will order this without hearing a note as I know this will be awesome.
Thanks for posting this. Love Jellyfish.
The Bears Fear is Never Boring
Robin Trower Day of the Eagle
David Bowie Space Oddity
Alice Cooper Under my Wheels
Genesis Taking it all to Hard
Jellyfish New Mistake
The Police Synchronicity...
Agree. This is an incredible Blu-ray. Great band. Should have picked it up when it came out though.
I guess TYS are not for everyone and that's cool. I wouldn't call the music busy, or too much going on. It has multiple layers with each musician playing a different part that fits together as a...
I joined this forum to discuss prog. Good and bad. So far I've received a lot of snarky comments like yours. Hope other members aren't so nasty.
Didn't know I shouldn't post on a two month old...
