The shipping is pretty ridiculous. I wait until there are multiple items I am interested in before ordering. That at least spreads the pain a little. Got Vol 1 and Bat Chain Puller at the same time...

Listened to it over the weekend. It won't win any audiophile awards but it sounds good. Not bootleg quality, a good setlist, and an interesting line up.
I did find myself filling in Nappy's vocals...
Listened to Blackwater Park for the first time in years. I had forgotten how good that album is - and I am NOT a death growl fan. However, the musicianship and arrangements make me ignore that. I...
Not sure. I have it on order and will compare it with the other versions I have (original vinyl, original cd, and remaster from a few years ago). This is one of my favorite Rush albums and I...
My system:
VPI Aries 2 and SDS
Ear 834 Phonostage
Esoteric DX5
Oppo 105
Audio Research Ref 3 preamp
Audio Research Ref 210 monoblocks
Mac Mini
Weiss DAC 202
TFTO was never my favorite but I took a chance on the HD Tracks version over the weekend since I like some of the other Yes releases they have offered. Sounds pretty good and I find myself enjoying...
The sources other than HD Tracks that I am aware of are Channel Classics (classical), eclassical (classical), Linn (mostly classical), Naim, Acoustic Disc (mostly acoustic and bluegrass), and now...
I am really sorry to hear this. I first met Jeff at a NEARFest many years ago when he gave me some excellent advice about some Gong CDs at a vending table. A nice guy who clearly loved music.
My...
At Hershey last night the second set had a large block of songs from CWA. Fine by me because I happen to think it is a strong album.
Odd setlist in some ways but I enjoyed it. Heard some songs I...
I also don't recognize most of these people.
If you are going to insult another musician at least do it with some "class" like the Pat Metheny - Kenny G spat a while ago :)
...
Same here. A folk/acoustic track mixed in with the rock stuff was fine but an entire album side......? Fortunately, I came to my senses eventually and enjoy III as a whole album, not side 1.
I've given the 2disc version multiple times over the last week. Overall, this is a strong effort. It won't rank up there with their greatest efforts IMHO but it is a worthy addition to their catalog...
No Help/Slipknot/Franklin's is unfortunate (see Winterland set or Buffalo for that) but The Other One from the 3rd show (NP) is a nice consolation prize.
Listening to disc 3 of the first show. Typical '77 show which means it fits in with a series of damn good shows from that year. Packaging and sound is nice. Looks like a GD weekend.
My vinyl copy is on the way and should be here in a few days. I like the new tunes but the compression is tough. CD for car and vinyl for home.
Just gave this a first listen and I am pleasantly surprised. There is a lot of subtle stuff in there and I expect I will like it more with repeated listens. Go with the 2 disc version.
Not...
A toast would be in order.
Having gone to every NF starting in 2001 it will be strange not being there this year. For me, NF was the real start of summer, not Memorial Day.
Not just a toast but...
Well, if you are suggesting that the mark of a "true" Rush fan is one that blindly goes along with any change the band might come up with then I would have to respectfully disagree. I would label...
An interesting thread and I am intrigued by the number of people who rank it as one of their favorites. IMHO, it is one of the band's weakest albums and confirmed (at the time) all of the reasons...
I ended up getting the 24/192 version and listened to it over the weekend. This was not on my main system since I was away over the weekend but on my Astell Kern 100 (modified by Red Wine Audio) and...
Someone on the Computer Audiophile thread posted some measurements that suggest this is not the Rhino remaster - both in terms of compression and EQ.
I will give this one a try since it may end up...
Yeah, you need to do your homework with a lot of hirez stuff, not just from HD Tracks. I have been pretty lucky in not getting burned too often but there have been a few misses.
Not sure. I haven't found anything that says what the source is. All I have found is the comparisons on the DR Database and the HD Tracks version seems to have the best values compared to the other...
Thanks for taking one for the team. :)
I thought TYA and CTTE were well done. Gates of Delerium is one of my favorite Yes tracks so I may bite on Relayer as long as it is better than some of the...
Given your recent feeding frenzy I believe you. The best part is there is a lot of good stuff you will hear in that three day period. Enjoy :ipa
Tempting.
I saw one set of measurements that listed the DR at 11 which is better than an earlier remaster that had a DR of 8. Not the final word on how the download will sound but it is an...
And going utterly apeshit after discovering them and acquiring a huge chunk of their catalog in a remarkably short period of time. :)
This Phil book is next up in my book pile. Looking forward to it.
Somehow I am not at all surprised he jammed with Magma. Would love to hear that.
From what I have read on the Hoffman and Computer Audiophile sites the 24/96 Sector sets look like they are the same mastering (and compression) as the Sector cds. Given that, I wonder whether the...
Yes, they do some killer covers. What I like is that they make the covers their own. It's a cover, but still uniquely "Mule."
Yes. You need this album.
When I discovered FZ most of his early stuff was OOP because of his fight with Warner Bros. I first heard this album when Ryko started releasing his stuff on cd. Burnt...
That is the version I have and I got it when it first came out. GD.net had a special deal where you could get the extended DVD version of the movie (my original copy was on betamax), the 5 disc...
Sounds interesting. I just got one of his modified Astell & Kern portable players (RWAK 100) and he was very quick and responsive. Is he going to hard wire the Mini to the BL?
Skeletons all the way!
He had some cool creatures but I always remebered the skeletons.
I have two set ups and neither uses HDMI:
The speaker-based system uses a modified Mac Mini with a solid state drive and Amarra as the playback software. That is connected by firewire to a Weiss...
That presupposes there was ever a version where she was on key. If there is, I haven't heard it. I can't count the times where I cranked up the volume after Yowl 1, got lost in the jam in the middle...
A fair complaint and doesn't sound stupid at all. For the people who appreciate the swag and packaging along with the music (which you obviously do) this business model isn't too good. One would...
I believe they are going to make the individual shows available for download. They also made the individual Europe '72 shows available on cd after the mega box. I would also expect some sort of...
Likely, but she had better monitor support in '77 so her background vocals weren't too horrible. Also, with the multitrack masters they can (I hope) bring her down in the mix. Something you don't get...
Pre-ordered this one since '77 is one of my favorite tour periods. Just behind '72-74.
Should keep me busy until they do a 2/74 Winterland box.
Dynamic range.
I am pretty sure it was WIOQ -- back when it was rock station.
As I understand it, the HD Tracks people take what the labels give them. Unfortunately, some of the remasters are given a lot of added compression. Some of the HD versions are flat transfers, some...
I am interested but have heard mixed reviews of the 24/96 versions of 2112 and Moving Pictures, but better reviews on the DVDs that came with some of the Sectors sets.
I really hope they don't...
No, it wasn't Roosevelt. I was in 8th grade and didn't own a stereo when that show was broadcast. My music obsession didn't really start until 9th grade. I didn't get a copy of Roosevelt until the...
Not sure which version I have on cd but it is probably a Gastwirt remaster. Before that was a cassette tape from a radio broadcast back in high school. A Philly station played it at midnight and I...
Just saw on the Hoffman forum the the HDTracks version has a DR of 14. No guarantee but the poster thought it was the best out of the other versions he had.
I thought the hirez versions of CTTE and The Yes Album were well done. I passed on GFTO since I don't think the original recording was that great and Tormato for "artistic reasons."
I have always...
Add me to the group that ranks Thingfish as their least favorite FZ composition. I can pretty much find something redeeming in any FZ release, even if it is just a song or two. But this one? No....
Count me as a fan, particularly the live album.
This is really sad news.
I always enjoyed his posts. Even if you didn't always agree with him you didn't doubt the sincerity behind what he was saying.
RIP
Got my copy in the mail today. I know what I'll be listening to tonight :up
This is on my "must buy" list. I've been enjoying Vol. 1 and expect this will be just as interesting given the line-up.
