I'm surprised at the lack of commentary on a new IQ album!
Working my way through the second listen... all the IQ moves are there but on the last few albums there were a couple tracks that stuck to my ears immediately because there was some huge emotional...

Yeah, Manowar did this once with their debut album "Battle Hymns" and maybe one other album. Nothing quite says "we're out of ideas" more than this...
I saw a vid of few years back where Mike Portnoy and I think either Paul Gilbert or Petrucci on guitar and someone on bass did a live play-through of Rush's "Hemispheres" album. Not exactly what...
I don't really know much about all this but lately on Youtube I've been watching this series, "What's In My Bag?" in which rock musicians of all kinds go shopping at a vinyl record specialty store...
The Monkees had 3 albums worth of songs that were released years later as Missing Links 1, 2 and 3. Some cool stuff in there, more Mike Nesmith country-rock and some songs written by Peter Tork with...
Not that I'm aware of. I've only heard it on an early live recording, maybe the one they did in a radio station studio.
More on Marriott/West... I'm reading a LONG unpublished interview of West by Jason Obrecht done at the time of this collaboration. West is describing a few of the songs... tells a story that they're...
From the magazine article above, the collaboration had an actual band lineup and were to be called The Firm:
The Firm, used in the English sense meaning a gang as opposed ot a company, is made up...

Somewhere there has to be tapes of the Steve Marriott/Leslie West collaboration that never materialized. They went to the trouble of posing for a guitar magazine cover together so surely they laid...
Great choice, Glass Moon! It did the same for me when my dad passed.
Humble Pie had an entire album scrapped in 1975 after "Thunderbox".... supposedly the story was the record company said it sounded "too black". They went back and recorded "Street Rats" instead. ...
I never picked up Manifesto, been out of the loop I guess. Will see if any tunes are on YT to sample and check it out.
They better bring back the War of the Worlds stage set or I ain't goin'!!!!
Well I bargained with the Judge,

KC - Easy Money live

They can't stop...
I've got white knuckles from resisting listening to advance tracks before the album arrives!!
Got my order in from Ken and am going to hold off listening to online clips also.
Went back and listened to Desolation Rose and liked it fine, including the extra disc.
I know people say all...
Well just gave this one a re-listen after however many years and my opinion hasn't changed. I like Homeworld a lot, the rest is disposable. But yeah, the House of Blues DVD is superb!
Ordered from Ken, now just pacing back and forth waiting for the mailman! :)
The thread's a few years old so maybe I already replied but I dig the gnarly Mississippi Hill Country guys like RL Burnside and Junior Kimbrough.

Agreed! I was most impressed with a scene from one of the "making of" videos, I think it was the first one, where Mike is seen mapping out all the sections to an epic with a marker on paper and...
Wow, hope I can afford this. I like that the two live shows are not nearly identical setlists.
Pushes all the right buttons for me...

They make Mike's voice passable on his lead lines on the studio albums, but when he's on stage drumming and singing a lead line LIVE.... OO FAH!
Pete's voice isn't the greatest but I like when he gets an occasional lead line. Mike's voice is just too Lawn Guyland!
I was so jazzed when I heard Homeworld. They're back, Yes is back, 70's prog rock is back! The rest of the album did nothing for me.
Let the heathen rage, another auto buy for me!! I want my comfort prog!
My only request is that Mike not get any lead vocal lines.
And then there's Geddy road-testing his Taurus pedals before they appeared on Farewell to Kings!

Yikes, neither did I !!!! That's a lot of sand dune album covers but I still don't think I'm seeing the one I'm trying to remember... or maybe I'm just getting old...
Thanks for posting that sample, Skip. Now I'm all over this book! :p
A few years ago I was thrilled to hear Geddy say in an interview that he was a fan of Humble Pie, probably my favorite non-prog band back in the day. Now I hear Alex say one of the reasons for...
There's another prog album cover similar to Spock's Beard "V" and I'm drawing a blank on it...

a $70 CD package... TOOL spelled backwards is LOOT... yes, there is a conspiracy afoot...
I'm in, of course! They haven't made an album in 25 years that's disappointed me yet, and that's quite an accomplishment considering other favorite bands like Yes and Rush have released albums that...
The book will be interesting to me if fleshed out with anecdotes and new pictures. Otherwise a dry listing of tour dates is something I just look at briefly online to see the shows I attended. RE:...
I hope you find the strength to get through this and things work out for you. I know what you're going through. Caretaking my wheelchair-bound (and stubborn Italian) mother for the last 3 years of...
Off topic but I had to chuckle thinking about some of the nonsensical things written in yearbooks. In my elementary, middle-school and high school signature/year books I would sometimes hand them to...
There's also a DVD documentary, Dancehall Sweethearts.
Around 17 years ago I sent scans of all the articles I saved to a Horslips fan site, this was before the band regrouped and had their own...
And the review in Good Times said they were jamming on traditional instruments in the dressing room after the show with fans. I was learning trad tunes on mandolin at the time thanks to these guys...
One of my 70's obsessions and a brilliant album. I too regret missing them - all my fault, I opted for my beer league hockey game instead of seeing them at My Father's Place on Long Island! ...
Loose Balls by Terry Pluto, about the old ABA (American Basketball Association). Hysterical!
It's always risky to juxtapose the words "full" and "bush"... :oops
If any old-timers picked up the book, "The California Golden Seals, a Tale of Red Ink and White Skates" by Steve Currier, there's two short anecdotes about me in there. I was a huge fan of this...
So did Ty Tabor...

I haven't looked at the article yet but the problem with ranking a band like Rush with 17 (?) studio albums is that, if you're a fan, there are going to be some songs you like a lot rated 30, 50, 70,...
This one.
Some great tracks from the Coverdale/Hughes version of the band but overall I feel their output is less than the sum of its parts.
Be Bop Deluxe - "Crying to the Sky" into "Sleep That Burns" from the Sunburst Finish album. First track is a moody Robin Trower-like slow piece in which a blazing solo dissolves into rain and...
Rocket Scientists were one of the first bands I picked up on when discovering this prog rebirth in the late 90's. Their early albums "Brutal Architecture" and "Oblivion Days" were big favorites...
Seeing Eye God - Under the Sun
Wait, was that song 16 minutes? Or was it an 8 minute song played twice on the video? Sounds like the song ended with an acoustic part then started over from the beginning again.
Fu Manchu - re-release of Godzilla's Eatin' Dust EP with 4 extra tracks and different versions of songs from the original.
Bring it! AUTO FREAKIN' BUY!!!!
