On Spotify there is a 2019 Make a Rising album called Mercy and Severity. So how did they disappear?
How come this was never mentioned in all these years I am around these parts? This is fantastic, purely original music that makes for a unique listening experience. I am totally impressed.
But I don't want to live the life, I want to have a say on it. I want to be God!
(or I could just express wishful thinking on PE)
I would say that HC belongs in the 3rd category. For me, they should have stuck together no matter the cost. Art Bears gave us some incredible, outstanding music. Fred has been doing fantastic music...
Western Culture is easily their best - for the reason that the band didn't believe in it. Because Henry Cow was all about discord - and discord reached a peak there.
As for the live stuff Trondheim...
Yes! This is lovely.
The book is excellent in my opinion. I envy the man who wrote it.
This and the Return To Forever "debut" are my faves. The frenetic power and tension of Hymn is truly outstanding.
Nice
I love the fact that HC is on Spotify. I can be away from home and still listen to them if I get the itch for their music.
Or play them to someone who could like and understand their music. And...
I haven't really connected with Chick Corea music, except for the Miles Davis albums and early Return to Forever. That said, I am not really familiar with anything he did from 80's onward.
I...
I like it a lot. I like the idea of uniting dance-electronic music with progressive rock ideas. It sounds fresh and relevant.
No doubt, this is one of the great rock bands of the 70's. I have been listening extensively these last days to:
- Eight Miles High. Pretty strong and frantic piece of European psych.
- Seven...
I am listening to the Horrific Child album, which is part of the Nurse With Wound list. I don't understand anything from it. After 3 listens the verdict seems to be that this is complete nonsense....
A band I always meant to check out, but for a stupid reason always forgot about it. I think Richard said it all: it's gritty and intelligent at the same time, it reminds me of early BOC on that...
Sun dies is such a killer song. Maybe the sun dies because it was killed by this song.
But my fave in there has to be Blue Cheadle.
I don't know man. A song like Soleil Noir really scratches my epic/symphonic/psychedelic itch, despite the extravagant style and the clear Yes influence.
The other one I know is Visitors, which is...
What? Is this allowed? A non essential movement that could put to danger so many people? You should be moving only for work and food if you were truly responsible. Work and eat.
The album is so...
"Born on July 10, 1941, Massiera was not only known as "the French Joe Meek" but also referred to "the inventor of French progressive rock.""
...
I believe I do that. Lots of my favourite music I received initially with a grin of disapproval.
But eventually I need to like it.
Le Grand Sbam/Poil/Piniol stuff is as good as anything from the past.
Apart from that I agree with you. I miss the surprise element.
I got a different impression, that they were very well aware of them, and their technique of using the studio as an instrument, tape-manipulation etc. Of course their common concert did not go too...
Listening this morning to Faust Tapes. I believe this is the archetypal avant-garde band in rock music, especially if one considers the influence they exerted on Henry Cow etc.
I think we...
The new Needlepoint is indeed very-very good
Thank you man for all the great work. It's hard to keep track of everything.
Thanks John. That's a really good one that went unnoticed.
Hi there. It's working for me.
Of course it's another issue that my bio info has not been updated despite being sent a year ago. Or that there is people on the grid who cannot rate because they...
I also like ELP more, but for the progressive rock beginnings perhaps the Nice were more significant in a sense.
And anyway, I am not sure Hammill says they were the better band. I do remember...
You hit a spot there.
No way this is true :D
For a brief moment I thought you were suggesting that Phil is a better singer than Peter Hammill, and thought that you had gone mad
Of all places, Athens Greece, May 2020
The ones that still hurt, since I live in a country where there is no abundance of concerts of our kind of music:
Van der Graaf Generator
Frith/Greaves/Cutler (fuck!)
Irreversible Entanglements...
He does pay some respect to Radiohead though, for the way they have retained their identity, even when playing huge festivals.
Our own Bucka001 posted this interview on YouTube, so I thought it would be good to give it here. Besides Peter's comments on his personal life and his music - "the saxes or my voice was not the...
I am automatically in
Ι think I like this format more than Jordsjo. It's a melodic symphonic folk beauty.
I am such an ape to have forgotten about Music to Eat. I am listening now and it's a glorious attempt at tearing all music limits to pieces.
A fair choice
I got a chance to listen to the collection of songs from Twenty-five views of Worthing that recently saw the light, and it definitely belongs to the discussion, in terms of quality and atmosphere....
Give us the list dammit!
Absolutely! In another chapter of my conspiracy theories book, King Diamond was an avid prog-fan in the 70's and ripped off his falcetto by Trettioariga and the Sammlas.
My first encounter with...
I would also like to have the Jimmy Hendrix Experience classic albums with Jimmy Hendrix's guitar mixed out.
Do you remember when we were telling that Pinhas and Artman would be German collaborators in World War II ? :) They both sound more German than French to my ears.
Funny , I heard bits of it for the first time a couple of days ago. Super powerful stuff. I intend to do explore further
I'll eat my hat if you don't like it
Great record, an alliance of electric jazz (Miles Davis is a clear influence) with the electronic sounds of Krautrock - done in an original way. All three of those Lard Free records are pure gold, I...
Yep. Listened to this one yesterday and it's very good.
Good list. And an undisputed number one.
I love the band, but I have to admit - with a blush - that I wasn't really thrilled with Chicago. A record that costed me a fortune, since I had to pay customs for it.
Still it's a good thing that...
:rofl
My first encounter with Soft Machine was Vol1 and Vol2 on a written tape, and I knew nothing about Robert's huge later career, or even his accident. And the first thing that stroke out was the drums....
The fact they use their language is also a major part of the appeal. The funny thing is I sense the sarcasm, without knowing any Swedish at all, in the way the words are uttered.
I only have the first two albums, but I love them to death. In my book of conspiracy theories it is written that Rush somehow got hold of these first 2 albums, listened to them, and decided to play...
Another vote for Little Red Record from me.
I bought this upon release - I think it is the exact same year - as a heavy metal fanboy and liked it very much. I knew nothing of classic prog, so along with Fates Warning- Perfect Symmetry they...
A great band and a sad loss. Celia's voice is something of a gold standard for female vocals of this type. RIP.
You mean Melos or Frontiera? I -think I - gave the first a 13 and the second a 12.
Since I remember you liked Semiramis, I think you will also dig Frontiera. The same combination of beautiful melodies with fierceful guitar trouncing.
The Alussa Fallax LP is also very good. I...
I like it a lot, and also didn't know about it.
There have been so many bands from the US the last 20 years that made good progressive music, in an original way, and without sounding at all cut...
