I would definitely come up from Portland to check it out if I didn't already have travel plans that weekend. :(
Tool uses a lot of pointless tracks. From a baby crying on "Cesaro Summability" to what sounds like a Van der Graff Generator (unfortunately not the band) on "(-) Ions". I have never been a fan of...
Pretty cool video! But needs more Ryo. :) Is that him in the cowboy hat at 2:18 though? Hah!
The reason he's writing about prog now is that the article is ostensibly a book review of Yes is the Answer.
I got an email out of the blue a week or two ago asking me to check out Hibernal, a solo project of Mark Healy, and his new album The Machine. It's a concept album that features instrumental music...
I guess this is really only useful if you're tallying votes, because I think every one of the prog metal bands I really like have been mentioned. But here are my top recommendations:
Pain of...
Pretty sure he's riffing on their actual debut, When Dream and Day Unite.
Wow, I think you're right. I was even reading along with the liner notes and I still misheard that one somehow! Thanks for pointing that out. :)
Are you referring to the end of Nights in White Satin? :)

Cool, glad it worked for you!
tumblr is this new thing the kids are using (actually it's not completely new, it just got sold to yahoo for $1B). When I started my blog my most tech savvy friend...
All this talk of album titles and what they mean just reminds me of Shark Sandwich and Smell the Glove. "None, none more black." :)
Not sure why it's making you login, but I was able to embed the song in my tumblr, so I'm assuming it will work there for you? I was able to listen to it there logged out of soundcloud. You can try...
Thanks for taking the time to read it, Squids! :) And thanks for the clarification on the slip. I went into it pretty much thinking it was a vehicle since the image of it hovering over the skyline...
I love Meet The Flower Kings. It was my introduction to TFK and has all the great old epics, The Truth Will Set You Free, Garden of Dreams, Humanizzimo, and Stardust We Are.
Even more confusing is when there is also a song title of the same name on a self-titled album, like Black Sabbath or Bad Company. :)
I'm cautiously optimistic. Have there been any teaser tracks released?
Awesome! I'm looking forward to it. :)
I posted a review of Dimensionaut. For me the album is kind of a mixed bag. Some tracks I loved, but a couple others I wasn't really a fan of.
Holy crap, I was totally ambivalent to the whole Queensryche debacle. Until now.... That was totally uncalled for.
FYI the two newest songs are available on bandcamp now. :) Check em out!
Very cool, one of my favorite GH albums. I went crazy and ordered the deluxe combo. :)
Yeah, that's what it is. They've got 2 more songs they wrote/recorded during the Echolyn sessions. They have released 4 so far on their bandcamp site.
I post a review of Echolyn on my site yesterday:

Awesome! My only exposure to their less-folky material is from their live album, but I like the tunes there, so actually maybe I should pick those two albums up. I had trouble finding them before...
That's the one that immediately came to mind for me as well. Also among the references: Light My Fire, Gabba Gabba Hey Hey, My Generation, Day for Night, Cinema Show. The lyrics also make mention of...
Sad day.... :( RIP.
Cool, thanks! Not sure how I missed it. Maybe since it was in close proximity to thing about the Eyeballs story.... I have a real phobia of things touching my eyes, and that story really give me the...
Alex's speech was kinda funny, but went on WAY too long... I kinda dug the ensemble rendition of Crossroads at the end though.
Can't wait here either! I got the chance to meet them at RoSfest last year and basically fan-boyed all over them... :)
But I don't see mention of new MP solo material, where is that mentioned?
Cool, I just happen to be in Milwaukee the weekend Hackett is there, so I got tickets. :)
That's awesome. Crowdfunding way ahead of its time! Bands could Kickstart tours. Higher cost rewards could give merch or backstage passes. Stretch goals for added venues. :)
This Le Orme album always creeps me out.

I've only heard a UK song here or there on internet radio. Is it worth going back and giving them a proper listen?
Was this the most expensive music video ever created? XKCD does the analysis.
:)
Well I can't really speak for shows that happened before I was born, but I'm guessing that back in the heyday it was easier to fill bigger venues, so it would make more financial sense.
Or the rest of the West Coast for that matter. :( For many bands it probably doesn't make sense financially to travel 2000 miles for 2-4 shows, the East Coast is so much denser.
No, not alone, I said I love that one too. :)
Yep, "There is More to This World" is a great tune, one of my faves. I also really love the Judas Kiss. I don't really remember most of the rest of the stuff on this album though, I should give it...
Right now I'm thinking Echolyn's Island. Great tune.
Pretty cool stuff. I liked that Yes show, I didn't realize there was a performance with that many Yes members at the same time.
And I know it wasn't part of your remastered series here, but I'm...
One thing I was kind of hoping for was Daniel Gildenlöw to get on stage for the Flower Kings encore. I'm not even sure if he was in town yet, but it would have been really cool to see some Adam & Eve...
I agree, the lights in the face were super annoying. My only criticism about the music echos some others, I thought there was too much metal. I'm sure it's not easy to book a combination of bands...
I posted my review of RoSfest over here.
Some of the highlights:
My favorite performances were The Flower Kings, Pain of Salvation, and Shadow Gallery. And my favorite newly discovered bands...
