I bought 'Lost world 1992' from bandcamp last friday. This is a re-recording of their orignal debut cassette album from 1992
It is different from the last album. The KC influences are completely...
I think it is totally awesome. Very different from the Yugen and Ske albums. Much more metalish and dark. Sound quality is sublime. The riffs really thunder out of the speakers.
Need to hear it...

The album indeed sounds nothing but great. Not nice and sweet great but more like a tornado going through a town great.
It made me laugh out loud.
Do not understand the sour reactions. But then again, I like artists who do not take themselves to seriously.

Dunno if everyone can acces this link but a very intesting update from mr. Fripp!
The more I hear the album the more I like it.
I would even claim this is my favorite after Triskaidekaphobie and Le poison qui rend fou
It is THAT good. First absolute highlight of the year.
Thanks. The vocals do not bother me all. I can be a bit of a folky_female_vocals_weeny.
I will probably buy one or two more the next bandcamp friday. Maybe Spheres alligned and one of the older...
I thought the two albums with Peter Hammill were rather excellent, but i hafta admit that I am a big Hammill fan. The other two, 'off the radar' and 'Colors not found in nature' were good but not...
Just trying to start a conversation on the record so thanks for this insightful contribution.
I bought this album last bandcamp friday:

I bought it because of a very positive review I read on babyblaue-seiten.de....
To my great surprise I saw there is a new Isiludurs Bane out. I haven't seen any announcement or post on this yet. It has been released very quietly.
I haven't heared it yet but I will probably...
I received the CD in my mail yesterday to my great surprise. I completely forgot that I contributed to the crowdfunding campaign years ago.
Had my first spin yesterday : an incredibly wild and...
Looking forward to this album!
I was a bit sad to read about his 'descent into psychosis' . I really hope he is doing ok now. Covid has been hard on a lot of people but a nightmare for artists.
I heared there are two sets to be played. Mr Drake will play a set and one set of Cardiacs members playing Timmy songs. I suppose mr Drake is also part of the Cardiacs line up.
But yeah, its been...
I have tickets for the 4 May Sing to Tim event as well and it is a pity Kavus wont be there.
Gong is probably his mail source of income now and bills have to be paid.
My Golden Age was the year I discoverd Cardiacs (1988). I was 21.
I never listen anymore to the stuff I liked when I was 16.
I already went shopping
Present - This is NOT the end (preorder)
Lost World band - A moment of piece
Angel Ontalva - twelve days of winter
The Anchoress - Versions
Iva Bittova, Gyan Riley,...
Had my first spin yesterday. Excellent!
Had no time to look at the video yet. Hope to have time over the weekend.
I saw her with her sixtet last year in the Netherlands. Absolutely fantastic, one of the best concerts of the year.
I also love Cloudward, but maybe not quite as much as Amaryllis/Belladonna. She is...
Rock bottom is one of my favorite albums of all time. Top 5 for sure.
I am very sad to hear about his fragile health. Its unfortunately one of the harsh realities of the final stages of life. I am...
Thanks for the notice. Added that one too. Did not have any Anna von Hausswolff yet.
Decided to get two more:
Rubber Tea - From a fading world (german canterbury-ish)
Momentum - Slag op de Suyderzee ( Dutch language prog)
I got
Rhun - Tozzos (pre-order)
Antistatic - Relics
Cheer-Accident - Vacate (pre-order)
The Smile - Wall of Eyes
Nathalie Joachim - Ki moun ou ye (pre-order)
Glen is only a 'hired' keyboard player in Bi-2 band but he now also faces deportation back to Russia.
It is really really sad what is happening.
If they get deported back to Russia I will not...
Wayside also sells most Cardiacs CD. Might save you a lot of shipping costs by ordering through them

The unexpected revive of this thread made me play this again. I enjoyed it!
I like all instruments when played well but....
.......is enough to make a piece of music unlistenable.
I think the main reason that this forum has been successfully around for so long is that it is very well moderated.
You could say it is also thanks to the many knowledgeable contributors but the...
It has been ages since I last played this. I kinda forgotten it so I need to revisit.
I was hanging around on the old usenet progressive rock forum. At one point it got more and more troll infested and less and less posts from serious fans. I found out that people were moving to this...

Nice review of A Ghastly state of affairs on DPRP:

I haven't been to that many prog festivals but I remember being absolutely floored by a very young Beardfish at the Symforce festival in 2007. Didn't know them before but I have been a fan since.
Magnum was one of the first 'proggy' bands I ever got into. My brother, who was a few years ahead of me, was a metal head and I was just getting into prog, so Magnum was one of those bands we both...
I am really diggin that Time of Orchids album. Unknown band for me but they really have their own thing going.
If I limit myself to pop songs of a few minutes length with a traditional song structure, here are a few that come to mind:
The Nits - Adieu Sweet bahnhof
Peter Hammill - Vision
REM - The one I...
I currently have two Ghost Rhythms albums on pre-order on bc.
New ones from Present, Ghost Rhythms, Lost Crowns, William D. Drake.
But above all wishing, hoping and (unreligeous) praying for Cardiacs - LSD.
And Robert Wyatts Rock Bottom is one of my favorite albums ever so that means I rate it higher than any Soft Machine or Matching Mole album.
Paolo 'Ske" Botta's - 1000 Autunni is better than any Yugen album
Trying to remember what i saw this year but Poil Ueda, Lankum and Arooj Aftab, vijay Iver& Ismaely stood out this year.
I cant find the donate button in mobile view. Can someone post a link?
I agree. Quite an unique sounding record. I think I even placed at nr 2 at my best of 2023 list, after Poil Ueda.
I have another NewAm record ar nr 3: Awadagin Pratt - Stillpoint. Not avant prog but...
The new Peter Gabriel or the latest Sigur Ros for instance. Both pretty dissapointing.
But I mainly buy stuff I expect to like. I usually check out samples on bc or Yt before I buy. But there are...
It is still on my bandcamp wishlist. I heared some of it but I am not (yet) convinced it is for me.
Yeah , I saw little praise on this board but it is really really good.
A strong year. Very hard to compile a top 10, but here goes (might feel different tomorrow)
1 Poil Ueda - Poil Ueda
2 Haralabos Stafylakis - Calibrating Friction
3 Awadagin Pratt - Stillpoint...
I admit I am not the biggest watcher, much more a reader, but I am enjoying "For all mankind" a lot.
I love the way they handled this alternative take on history. Because it is infused with very...
I am still doubting if I should buy this reissue or not. I own everything Hammill has released so far so not buying would be a first for me.
I listened a bit on Spotify and was not too...
Of course Dutchies Focus sold a lot of records wirldwide.
^^^^ I mostly agree. A fine addition to the UZ catalogue.
Love the tunes Sfumato pt 1 & 2. Different from what they've done before but they work very well.
After 3 spins I am slightly less positive. I think the songs range from average to good. I miss some real standout songs on the album. PG still sings well and the production is very good although I...
I still have a bit of a 'listening backlog' for last couple of months purchases so only two for me this month
VÄLVĒ - Tiny Pilots
Q - Q
I am very sad to hear this. For me Shane is one of the greatest songwriters although his period of greatness was relatively short; the first 4 Pogues albums. ON the 5th album, Hell's Ditch, the...
