I saw him at the Bayou in Washington D.C. with Rick Derringer and Carmine Appice. He really surprised me. I had no idea that he had the chops he displayed that evening. Really a phenomenal player....

Nice, Bob! Love the intro theme on the piano.
I'd have to say for me, it was Gentle Giant's "Free Hand". I got it when it first came out and didn't "get it" at all. Now, it seems mainstream, but back then, was a bridge over the prog Rubicon!
^^ What are you doing for music interfaces and DAW software?
I like it! I'm getting a little bit of an Anekdoten vibe from the tune "Embers". Nice sounding recording.
^^ I would be interested in the components you decided upon in building your DAW. I haven't upgraded my setup in years as I fear the limiting factor is my composing and playing more than the gear.
Just listening to the new Wobbler. I played it right after Gentle Giant's "Three Friends" and find the two to be very similar in sonics. The Wobbler vocals are a bit weak (IMHO), but it's good...
It's interesting to watch him play "School's Out" in his tuning. Totally different fingering. A lot of barreing with the pinky! He seems to be a pretty funny guy when he wants to be!
It's getting nippley in here!

Hey, Bob! Nice track. Your samples get a nice guitar sound. It'll be interesting to see what comes of this!
Yeah, but I don't think this is going to last for much longer. I think all of the major platforms will be distributing in high-res within the next few years. Storage is getting cheaper and bandwith...
It’s just mind boggling that CD audio is no longer the gold standard for digital music. It’s due to suffer the fate of the cassette.
Anyone watched "Raised by Wolves"? The religious fanaticism angle is a little hard to believe. A highly technological society engaging in sun worship? Apparently, the show has been re-upped for...
I'm too lazy to read the whole thread, but given the advent of 5G, I see streaming moving towards high-resolution audio VERY soon. Physical media will be a thing of the past.
Wow! That's a wonderful compliment, Renate. Thank you and Merry Christmas!
Hey, Richard. That song is not mine. It's an arrangement of a tune by Enya! I'll get to work on the Christmas cookies and hot cocoa!
^^ The recording sessions for these songs are pretty hilarious. My wife is, as they say, a bit "pitchy"! Merry Christmas Richard and everybody!
Every year, my wife and I record a Christmas song for all of our family and friends. Usually, we choose something non-traditional. Past examples include a serious (at least to me) rendition of...
Until All the Ghosts are Gone is my favorite!
^^ Always loved the Taco Bell Chihuahua!
Muy bueno, Bob....perhaps a new category: ambient Spanish? I like it when it picks up near the end of the song with your nice soloing.
Nice track with some tasty guitar tones. Reminds me a bit, in parts, of Alan Parsons "Tales of Mystery and Imagination"....
^^ Wasn't Whirlwind before Kaleidoscope?
The preview track is solid, but nothing new. Didn't they make a whole album using the Whirlwind metaphor?
^^ I believe Pack is also featured on some of Alan Parson's records. He's a great singer and underrated guitarist.
^^ Yup, Adinfinitum sums up my feelings almost exactly. I haven't heard Inside and Out, though. Have to remedy that.
Just listened to the track "Why" (the 10m+ version). It's really not that bad, although it doesn't fit with the rest of D&W. There's some serious, over-the-top bass playing going on. It's not Gary...
Those first 3 albums, with Safety in Numbers being my favorite, are must-haves if you like a little dose of Beatles with your prog. The rhythm section is great, too! Recent material has improved...
Zinc is pretty good. Jobson's vocals are an acquired taste; the whole record might have been improved by a better vocalist.
Reminds me a little of Big Big Train's marketing practices. There's always another addition featuring a special bonus track. True. You aren't being forced to buy anything and for the true fan,...
All the Ambrosia records are worth having. Don't resist! It's good stuff!
^^ I think "Why" is on the Demons and Wizards Deluxe Edition as a bonus track clocking in at around 10min or so. I didn't care for it and it didn't have the same sonics as the rest of the album.
I still find the album Demons and Wizards to be a masterpiece. I rode my bike as a pre-teen to buy it and had to ride home with no hands to carry it while I came home. It's really almost a perfect...
^ Thanks, Bob. Seems to be the platform of choice these days.
Matt, I'd also have to agree that Lurker is my favorite, although the riffs, progressions and guitar sounds are nice in all of them. What is the bit rate of uploaded material on YouTube? Is it...
Thanks, Bob, for listening and your kind words!
A great replacement would have been Bill Connors. He was into his Allan Holdsworth-aping period about that time.
^^ I guess I prefer the "finished" product where Fripp culled the best from these tapes to make albums like Starless and Bible Black and USA. I enjoyed the Great Deceiver, but I don't think I'll log...
^^ Thanks, Matt! If I could only develop a Geddy-like screech!
I thought it might be appropriate to post this on Veteran's Day (in the US). It tells the story of one brave soldier on the day of the Normandy invasion of Europe, a day that changed the world. ...
You're right. I haven't heard any of this material other than the original record, which I like a lot. There is no way I would invest the time you have to get through this stuff. I consider myself...
6 CD's (CD's 1-6 sourced from cassettes)
4 CD's of original album reissues in various remaster/remix bonus etc.
6 CD's of the sessions for the album.
That's 16 CD's worth of 1 album, the...
How many of these things do they really expect to sell @ $195 + shipping? Looks like a lot of cassette-sourced stuff, reissues of previously available material and a couple of CD's worth of studio...
I'll have to listen. Haven't heard that one in while.
I think Alan White's drum sounds, in general, sound like he's pounding on cardboard boxes. Not just on Yessongs, but on every Yes recording with the exception of maybe Drama.
It's hard for me to look at this record critically. I love it and always will. I heard it when it came out at the tender age of 15 and it totally blew me away. I had previously thought that Yes...
I'm probably in the minority here, but I liked Humble Pie better when Frampton left. I think "Smokin'" is the best album they ever did. Clem Clempson was a great replacement for Frampton.
I had never heard of A.F.T. I liked it!
Regarding Zep studio vs. live, I think they sounded way, way better in the studio. Very sloppy live, especially late in their career when they were all wasted during the show. Zep remains the only...
^^ I believe Zappa's technique isn't tapping. He uses the edge of the pick instead of his right hand fingers and gets a very tasty trilling effect. The idea is basically the same, though. Using...
George Kooymans is a very good and underrated guitarist.
Been revisiting BOC recently as a result of this thread. I'm surprised how much I love Mirrors. The album and the song are great.
The median price for the Kenso II CD in the cardboard LP sleeve is less than $30 on Discogs, so it can still be had for a not unreasonable premium from what it originally cost.
Just listened to several tracks from your BandCamp link, Bob. Great stuff! You really get some nice sounds out of your keyboard rig. I'm impressed by the imaginative production and the parts you...
Nice job, Richard! Kind of a Genesis vibe with maybe a touch of Ravel! The drums are very well recorded, too, and everything is in a nice balance.
The Richie guy is a great singer, but it doesn't sound like BOC. Just generic pop metal. Oh yeah, IMHO!
Thank you, Renate! I guess it's unconscious plagiarism!
That’s the best emulation of a guitar by a keyboard that I’ve heard. Really scary that the sampling has gotten so good. The chording is easier to ID than the single note lines.
Yeah, those...
Wow, really love this track, Bob. Is that a guitar at 2:22? I thought you did all your stuff via keyboards. It has a real ELP feel to it and the guitar sounds are great, particularly the soloing! ...
Here's another one. It's not remotely proggy. It's a reflective song about the one that got away! We all have 'em! I know it's kind of a cliche, but you gotta do what comes!
