Ok, now they’re playing Closer to the Heart.

I’m hearing And You And I in an airport right now!

^That medley kicks all sorts of ass.
Great show, I ended up buying the Octarine Sky album, and Simon Phillips “Protocol V” while I was at it. Both excellent!

Listened to ToTO through Big Generator today and then finished up with the remarkable Levin Torn White. Quite a body of work there.

Agreed, but it's not quite apples and oranges. Steve is not saying that he IS Genesis, so he can put his bands together at will, and he has put together a fantastic band that does great justice to...
Any impressions of this album? I'm finding it stunningly great. Not an easy-listening jazz album, rather experimental in places. He does a lot of rearrangement of the "covers", very modern and...
Agreed, go see Martin's show, better band for years now and you get to see it in more intimate theaters. I paid $60 for a front row seat in Natick, MA and it was astounding.
Big Chair through TTP is an incredible run IMO (and I include Tomcats in that list). I think Roland is a genius, but I've also been very impressed with Curt's work on the new album. I really hope...
I don’t think I can get past the “detachment” of the band on this album, which is similar to TAAB2 and HE. Maybe it’s the production style or result of remote recording, but it sounds assembled...
I'm kind of done with larger shows, price, inconvenience, crowd behavior (talking, standing, cell phone videos, etc.) and a slight bit of COVID-induced agoraphobia among the reasons. I get much more...
The Delayer Tour
See history of CDBaby: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_Baby
^Awesome, he sounds great! I'd pay good money to see him do the whole album.
I agree about ELAHE. It's interesting to me that this new album seems to be getting a bigger marketing push than ELAHE did.
Good point. In many ways I see SD as a companion album to Duke.
Listened to Smallcreep's today, followed by Acting Very Strange, two very different albums for sure. AVS is a straight-ahead rock album with some new wave elements, it's more OK than I think...
Just played Court and will follow up with McDonald & Giles.
Yes, Braide/Downes is a great outlet for Downe's approach. It references the Buggles but also sounds timeless in a way that Asia doesn't. Maybe that's intentional, the 80's sound clearly has its fans.
I hadn't heard any of the Payne-era albums before, so yesterday I listened to all of them in order (playing VdGG today as a palette cleanser :D). Overall impressions:
-This is all in the AOR/MOR...
Yes, one day at a time :D
I think I went for the 1-disc initially after being kind of underwhelmed by the few albums before it. Radiation, marillion.com and Anoraknophobia are not bad, but I could...
Can someone recommend a show from the 1976 tour where you can clearly hear Bruford's contributions? I've heard In Concert and Cinema Show from Seconds Out, but would love audio from an entire concert.
You're right about that. I had the 1-CD version for years, and only heard Ocean Cloud a few years ago. Went out and bought the 2-disc after that.
The song has exactly 8 good ideas in it :p
Seriously tho, I hear a lot of sound references to pop/indie music from 20 years ago, I wouldn't compare it to any current pop music (of which I don't...
I like it, at 3:00 it doesn't overstay its welcome. Looking forward to more!
Classic-sounding TFF pop tune there, reminds me a bit of Pale Shelter. Love it!
Spot the Pigeon next?

I got Egg The Polite Force on CD for Christmas after only having a cassette copy for years. I can't have enough Dave Stewart!
To me it evokes a metamorphosis, moving from epics to more concise material(?).
While we're discussing logos, anyone else bothered that the reflection of the GENESIS logo on LLDOB is incorrect?...
For music, I enjoy:
The Album Years - Steven Wilson and Tim Bowness
Nothing is Real, A Beatles Podcast
Tabletop Genesis
Very helpful, thanks Aquatarkus! Apple Music has a free 3-month trial, I'll probably give it a try!
It seemed to play some Apple Lossless files and not others ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Maybe I'll try again with a better computer, any issues adding new content?
Thanks, guys!
I was using a Raspberry Pi as the server with an external drive also set up as my iTunes folder. The thought was that I could maintain playlists and syncing with my phone, but also...
I'm interested in this use model. I tried setting up my own streaming server at home using Plex, but had mixed results. Is it easy to update your library with new purchases/rips?
That's a great premise for a movie :lol
i thought about that too, but he's doing some interesting guitar processing in this track. This sounds like PT informed by his recent solo work.
Maybe PT is reinvented as a power trio?

These projects tend to involve a lot of the same musicians (Moraz and Rudess for example). I wonder how lucrative they are.

Looking forward to this. The single somehow reminds me of Marillion.

I'd put To Watch the Storms at the top of the post 80's list, Serpentine Song is gorgeous.
This. I’m a big fan of the 3 albums by Perfect Beings, very much a Yes-influenced band. Vier I thought was a stunning achievement, taking a Tales-like structure and making it modern.

Love this album, although I know many don’t.

I hope that wasn’t for the same guy.

i like the Daily Doug videos where he admits to some familiarity with the song and there's sheet music to refer to, then you get some really good analysis.
There's not a bad album in the whole lot of Genesis solo debuts in my opinion.
On the bright side, Tony doesn't seem to age :)
Love your show, Matt. Is there an option to get the whole show in a podcast format rather than just the first hour?
Now imagine if they brought this tour out, with this light show, with Ray Wilson on vocals. Better yet, with Simon Collins on vocals and second drum set.
I wonder if the band has any contingency...
I have iTunes set up on my computer to shuffle by albums, which Is what I prefer. Sadly this is not an option the phone.

That was excellent! Looking forward to part 2.
I have both an original vinyl pressing and CD reissue of this album. The vinyl has the Smallcreep’s suite on side 2, but the CD puts it first. I much prefer the vinyl running order, does anyone know...
That’s the one I remember. Rolling Stone’s review of this was two words: “Asia minor”. I bought it at the time because Asia was my entry point into the prog universe, but I was also underwhelmed.
...
Would love to hear from Graham as well, very talented songwriter.
Hi Sean! In a similar way 10cc wasn't on my radar until a few years ago. I always loved "I'm Not in Love," it was one of those songs that haunted me when I was younger, but didn't associate it with...
I certainly didn't mind that Billy strayed off topic, what an articulate and generous guy! It amazing that some of the greats (like Billy and Chick Corea) have spent their later years making their...
Another Consequences fan :)
"Hooks in You" is not all that different from "Incommunicado," the lead single from the previous album, although I'd say "Incommunicado" is the better song.
I'm glad you hung in there for the last track :)
I love Tony's pop writing and his more epic stuff, so Strictly works for me on both counts. No shade on Curious though, beautiful album.
