I "discovered" Firefall last year. They have some songs that can fit into Yacht territory and have some great deep cuts. Their hits are mostly very poppy of course. I remember the hits from my teen...
I think another factor that did Benoit in was that he had to really push his range every night to sing the YES classics. His natural voice and range seem to be more in the Dennis DeYoung zone than...
Benoit sounded really good on their 2009 and 2010 tours and I saw them several times. On the 2011 tour with Styx he was clearly struggling and Downes was under rehearsed. Styx blew them off the stage...
I still really like the original recording of Roundabout. But I have never liked the live versions very much.
Bob Weston was an excellent guitarist. Too bad he couldn't control himself ;-)

This album is built upon the vocal/guitar recordings I presented Nad Sylvan for his "Spiritus Mundi"...
"Coming Home" is an interesting track, though the production is very murky and strange. "Bermuda Triangle" is classic Bob.
Bare Trees is the one I am least familiar with, but plan on exploring soon. I agree that HEROES and PENGUIN are very uneven. I do think Mystery to Me is a very strong album. I love the overall vibe...
I've been going back lately and listening closely to the 5 Mac albums with Bob Welch. I'm curious what you intrepid listeners think of these albums. My favorites are "Future Games" and "Mystery To...
I saw Mayall at a small club in my hometown of Brattleboro, VT in 1980. He came out barefoot and only wearing very short cut-off denim shorts. Kicked ass.
Bill Bruford has a lot of class, he had the intelligence to retire while still near the top of his game. I did really enjoy the Topographic Drama tour a few years back. Bring on Jon and the Geeks!
How cool is Tony Kaye ? !
I look forward to the Jon/Band Geeks tour ;-)
In my opinion, it would be a lot more artistically honest if Steve Howe did like Hackett and went out as " Steve Howe Plays the Music of YES" or something like that. There would then be less...
I would love to see this show.
I think lyrics are just as important as the music.
I'm a big fan and very sad to hear this. He won the Texas fiddle contest when he was 9 years old. Yes, 9, and it was all ages. A really great multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. My favorite song: "...
I think very highly of Songs of Faith and Devotion and feel it is a very strong album. Alan Wilder left after that tour and the band never really fully recovered. Playing The Angel comes close to...
Thanks! I must have the shows mixed up. It was 45 years ago ! ;-). I'd forgotten how on fire Steve Howe was back then. I did witness a big train wreck during Gates of Delirium during the Symphonic...
^ this was the tour when I got onboard. I saw them When i was 15 at the Springfield Civic Center in Springfield, MA. I remember I was playing basketball the day before and a kid slammed his knee into...
What a great band!
I have always been very fond of "Construction Time Again". The first album with Alan Wilder and a big step forward into their sound.
Big fan and am sad to hear this. He was never a big part of DM in a musical way, but was involved more in the financial end and keeping the peace. We are the same age so it really hits home in terms...
And thanks for that post of a young Alan at the Glastonbury Festival smiling and enjoying life and music.
I saw YES about 30 times since 1977 and my favorite Alan moment was during the Union tour in Worcester MA during the big finale at the end of AND YOU AND I. He played a huge, slow drum fill that was...
Volume 2 will be released in a few weeks. My versions of the songs that W.B. Yeats and I wrote for Nad Sylvan's "Spiritus Mundi" album.
I've always loved "Dune", "Timewinds", and "Babel". Babel was a collaboration with a pianist named Andreas. You can picture them building the tower in your mind's eye. Musical architecture :-) Then...
I'm not a huge jazz fan, but I have loved this album since I was a teen.
Klause Schultze "Dune"
Many non-musicians have no idea about these kinds of things. I have tried to explain multitrack recording many times and they usually just stare at me blankly and have no idea what I am talking about...
He seemed like a very cool guy. My condolences to his family and friends.
He doesn't sound like a carbon copy of Ian but sounds Tullian to me. But I have only been listing to them since 1974 so what do I know?
I rewatched the video of the performance of Thick as a Brick with Ryan O'Donnell and I found his voice perfectly convincing as a rock singer. He sounded very close to a young Ian.
When Ian toured Thick as a Brick 2 he had a young guy singing many of his parts and it sounded great. He really should have continued in that vein methinks.
Bon Jovi can at least skate by on his good looks ;-). Steve Walsh is another singer who toured for years with a diminished voice.
She looks like a Filipina :-)
Wasn't he once voted "The Un-sexiest Man Alive"? Or he could have been top 3... Always enjoyed his performances.
OMG Alan has aged profoundly in the last few years. My father is going to be 88 this year and he seems younger than poor Alan. How did he manage to drum on the last album? Isn't Alan a few years...
wow, and they didn't even get booed off the stage. If vocals sound too perfect live, there is a good chance that they are lip syncing.
Happy Birthday Maestro! Your music has been very healing for me over the years. You are like an old friend.
I did a Blake poem on my Earth Below album:

Thank you Bobert !
I remember the Jon doc that was up on YouTube. He exhibited very bizarre behaviour throughout. This was right before he got ill and almost died. He was exuding an almost manic energy in the video. He...
I saw them from the front row in L.A. in 97 and I really liked them.
Thanks JKL! I hope to release volume 2 later this year that will have my versions of all the songs I wrote for Nad Sylvan's "Spiritus Mundi" album. They are all finished and just need...
Much appreciated , thank you very much! I hope to have it out on CD if I can raise the funds. Vinyl would be great but probably won't happen.
Go for it!
My new album is now digitally available on Bandcamp and, soon, on all streaming platforms. It features 11 songs with words by W.B. Yeats. None of these songs appeared on the album I did with Nad...
I remember reading an article in a Boston Sunday paper back around 1977 devoted to "Art Rock". They talked about "Close to the Edge" , "Foxtrot, Thick as a Brick" etc. The writer seemed to be...
I don't bother with arena shows anymore and refuse to pay those prices. I'd rather see The Fixx or The Strawbs or the like at a small club for $25.
EARTHBOUND.
Jimmy Page also plays on a lot of the Love Chronicles album.
If I could get out of paying my rent next month I would definitely go for this...
I saw them at The Bottom Line in NYC on the Aqua tour. Payne had the medicine man hat and Geoff wore very short cut off jeans. He's gained a bit since then. I remember Howe really upstaged the curly...
I hope to release my new album in a few months. Here is the first single:

John Wetton and his band played a Prog festival in L.A. in '97 that I attended. He was intoxicated and made it obvious that he really didn't give a f%&- about his performance. Very disappointing. I...
