I think it was just biker chic - Hell's Angels were into Nazi imagery, sporting swastikas and wearing coal-scuttle helmets. In the 60s/70s the swastika didn't have the same resonance it has today.

I didn't see him as a nutter right from the start but right from the start he never comes across as a family man, either in his treatment of his wife or his son.

I'm not a great fan but prompted by a live concert I saw recently on Sky Arts I bought 'Disintegration' and liked its dark mood. Bought 'Wish' as well but haven't listened to it yet.
