Upside Down!
To my ears? It's just cold, hollow and unenjoyable. Yes, it sounds like a computer made it, not humans. The opening 10 minutes of the previous 2 ELP albums were so much more engaging and appealing.
"Benny" is just as bad as "Jerusalem" and "Toccata." Those three tracks suck imo. It's all about KE9.
What was your impression of "Manifesto of an Alchemist? I love that one, but haven't heard the new FK yet.
I just got my shipment notice from Amazon.uk
I have no problem waiting. $35 total was a great deal for the set.
Avoid the DRT remasters though. They are compressed and EQ'd crap.
Wow, what a pleasant surprise! Manifesto of an Alchemist is a wonderful album. I think it's better than "Banks of Eden" and "Desolation Rose" both. I've been playing Side 2 of the LP over and...
Bummed there's no epic.
But then again, their last epic was their worst one, so maybe it's for the better.
I think Roine's lyrics are charming in their oft-goofiness and cross-pond attempts.
Interesting. I would have thought it was "Shadowlands" that gets a remaster. That's the one that sounds bad. Over-compressed.
Who sang those awful lead vocals during one of the loveliest passages of Transatlantic music there is, in the middle of "Kaleidoscope?"
A fantastic album; everything those two did in the 70's was really. But this one is special.
That's why I can't relate to the story of Quadrophenia in any way. I do love it musically, but none of its lyrical themes are relevant to my life past or present. But of course, neither is Tommy...
Lifehouse would have been far better than Who's Next imo. Major missed opportunity artistically.
Kraan Live 1975 is one of those all-time classic German Krautrock-Fusion Lp's. Awesome stuff.
But you have to get the original Intercord cd. The EMI remaster is abysmal.
:) But it just makes me sad to see "Benefit" missing.
That's strange. I bet then that it was Neal who refused to include the Teatime At the Circus bit, which I'm sure Roine would have enjoyed.
Glad I have my order in at Amazon UK for only $37US
The double albums "Lifehouse" and "Quadrophenia" certainly appear to be prog rock now, but there was so much prog rock going on at that time, that The Who weren't seen that way.
Ya that was enjoyable. Who doesn't like well-written pop by proggers, to interject something light on the album?
Do the naysayers also not like the epic on "The Sea Within?" That starts out...
The only good versions on cd of "Here We Are" and "Heaven and Hell" are the old Germanofon releases that came first. Incredibly hard to find though.
"March The Mad Scientist" is on the War Child set.
Ya, "Song of Seven" would have been an amazing opportunity with this line-up.
I would be thrilled if the released something again as wonderful as "Love Is The Only Answer."
I love Roine's singing. Hasse is good in small doses and certain songs. But I wish Roine sang more.
I don't hear cheese in Tomas' playing. Tomas was vital to TFK's best album Flower Power, ...
That "Making of Galleons" cd was better than the actual album itself.
But that's minus shipping correct?
1. Hemispheres
2. Natural Science
3. The Fountain of Lamneth
4. The Camera Eye
5. A Farewell To Kings
6. 2112
7. Xanadu
8. The Spirit of Radio
9. Jacob's Ladder
10. By-Tor and the Snow Dog
The title track to "Hemispheres" ranked 37th? :O :huh
Awesome! Please tell Julian to please not over-compress the mastering or use any noise-reduction. :)
You MUST Get the European Spring 1975 shows. They are amazing. Hackett is on fire.
dang
Dang, I wish I had lived here back then. I wonder where in town he was?
First two are best.
As a Crimhead and Christian myself, this is how I see it.
I always considered "Formentera Lady" and "A Sailor's Tale" as one long track. My first Islands cd had it indexed that way and I was none the wiser. Btw, I love it.
I thought he said he was reformed, but looks like he still couldn't resist.
Looks like the original Brain cd of Solar Music Live has a DR reading of 13, but the 2015 remaster is only a DR of 8?
Hardly. The cd remasters were way more compressed. They sound better in the car, but certainly not on a good home system. I do agree that the vinyl is best though.
Monolith is just as good as all the Kansas albums before it. Kansas in the 70's was awesome. The slide came in the 80's.
Why was "No One Together" left off the album? Also, was the version of...
I saw the show in LA last Friday night. It was actually much better than expected. The band was on fire and very tasteful. Most of the Yessongs were arranged differently which was nice, since...
I've been a big fan of his third Tone album Dance of the Age of Enlightenment for years.
I'll go to the LA show. But I'll buy tickets at the venue on show night. I'm not giving Ticketmaster $32 in extra fees!
Sometimes I love music with an ethereal floating non-structured presentation. This is one. Sounded boring at first, but now is pure magic to me. Lots of great interweaving melodies, just no...
I'm glad he's positive and full of light. Do we really need more edgy, dark and insular artists?
Mind you, I'd take Flower Kings over Porcupine Tree any day of the week.
I just picked up this rare LP. It is soooo good. And a much better singer than Kaipa! haha
The Lamb makes my Top 5 favorite albums ever. I've never read the story inside the gatefold. I also don't care about the concept or what it's all about. But I do love the sense of mystery and...
My guess would be that Roine forgot to include the word some.
I myself love those quirky, highly melodic Gabriel tracks. I'm guessing you're not a fan of "Harold the Barrel" or "Willow Farm" either.
Ya. Maybe the lyrics are cringy to some. But...
Sounds good to me.
Well that's 50 minutes right there. A great classic album! If you still need to fill it out, add "The River" and "Regal Divers" from the bonus disc. They fit alongside those three tracks you...
You've got to get a hold of one of the Genesis Spring 1975 Live European shows. Hackett is loud, present and insane on that leg of the tour.
Definitely a Flower Kings record. Roine just didn't know at the time that it would take off like it did. A very good album in the same league as the two follow-ups "Back in the World of Adventures"...
Rush - Hemispheres
Yep. Side 3 is my favorite.
A letdown for me after Stupid Dream.
Only three PT albums really make an impression on me: Stupid Dream - In Absentia - Deadwing
I don't see how it's possible to listen to the remaster of Godbluff and enjoy it. But I guess some people would still enjoy watching The Godfather on a VHS tape recorded in EP mode on a black &...
I just don't understand why every epic track that Neil is involved with has to start with a 4-minute long ultra-bombastic overture.
Holy crap this box set sounds like garbage. Compressed to death!
