Looking deeper into it (the images inside the last link I sent) , it looks like Hackett had to cancel, and Bruford ended up headlining that gig
It looks like it was Bruford (Bill's band) opening for Hackett (not them playing together)
https://www.concertarchives.org/bands/bruford
I googled it and found this:

Never heard anything of it before!
Sounds like the insurance companies took a listen to Soundchaser and then took a look at the age of the guys in the band , and figured it was too risky….
I tried to search for 2 tickets together and the cheapest available were shown as $869/ea , it’s possible that the price was for 2 tickets.
I also searched for one ticket and the lowest prices were...
I’ll pass on this as well
I remember going to the Up tour in San Jose in 2002 and paying I think $60 a seat, the most I’d ever paid for a concert. Gotta admit it was worth it since it was a great show, in the round, with...
Looks like I could get a cheap seat for around $250 but only if I just order 1 . If I search for two (sitting together) the cheapest option is $869/ea
Wow I just checked on tickets for SF and the cheapest option is $850 a ticket!!
Ah yes, back when Gabriel still came across as a bit of a scoundrel !!
It’s very much of its time (1978) and I think it’s mostly great. He should have played “White Shadow” live in later years. It’s...
I do remember distinctly getting the album right when it came out, already having been a fan for a year or so, having seen them in '77 (at the age of 12) and when I first heard Tormato , I noticed...
Are you fond of lettuce?
Check this out:

That was great!
I noticed the mbira music you used when introducing Jamie Muir - that's Shona mbira music from Zimbabwe. A musical world that I've been very involved in playing for over 20 years....
Rest in Peace Alan!
He was a fantastic drummer and musician and a great guy. A legend for sure, and a really nice genuine person.
I met and hung out with him for a few days at a booth at NAMM in...
Yeah that's one i particularly like, and didnt notice for years. it works musically, the original version ( in Hairless Heart) is minor, but the part in Light Dies Down is major...
Have you seen this - it's a great interview which includes Gabriel improvising on piano before speaking about their career up to that point, including a great description of the meaning of Supper's...
I've heard that as well, but this was another instance later (when Alan joined in 1972)
No mention of that - but it's notable that he says he called Jon Anderson when he heard Bruford had left Yes, looking for the job. But they already had Alan.
He repeatedly pronounces Bruford as "brufford" (with a short 'u') , kinda funny.
Here's an interview with Phil I saw on youtube, from during the Lamb tour.
Lot's of talk about drumming, his kit, and other progressive bands of the time. Check it out:
...
I believe "My Head Sounds Like That" (from "Up") is also reminiscent of that melody (from "Flotsam and Jetsam"), and Gabriel mentioned somewhere that something on that album was recycled from an...
It wasn't played twice exactly, but the song was split up - the first verse/ chorus before introducing Howe for "Clap", and the rest of the song after "Starship Trooper" and before introducing Squire...
Thanks for the videos! Wow - I'd never seen the Turn of the Century one before (since I saw it live) . Yep, that's pretty much what I remember. Amazing to see that.
Thank you for sharing that!
...
Hi Calyx,
I have seen the video, but can't see much there, and was wondering if anyone else remembers anything. It's such a long time ago, and a vague memory, but I'm pretty sure what I remember. ...
Thanks for this - enjoyed it!
One thing I wanted to add that was mentioned during the first segment -
During the 1977 Going for the One Tour (my first Yes show), I do remember the projections on...
Jane was definitely there with him at his Mother's Day show in Paso Robles (near SLO) in May 1996. I thought they had been together awhile by then. I think she was the reason he moved the the SLO...
Thanks - I thought there was maybe a way to get the shows in download form in better (lossless) quality, from Sugarmegs directly (or some kind of reference to find them). But it doesn't look like...
Sugarmegs is a great site - I've found some real treasures on there - things that I haven't heard anywhere else.
Do you know if there's a place to download the lossless versions of the shows on...
I think that's part of what I like about these and many other lyrics - that they don't have a straightforward meaning. To me, that's good thing. They are somewhere between meaningful and meaningless....
Well, it *is* his 75th birthday today... :)
Speak to me of summer,
Long winters longer
than time can remember
setting up of other roads
to travel on in old accustomed ways
I still remember
the talks by the water
the proud sons and...
Anybody notice how he put one of the main melodies from "Revealing Science" into "To The Runner" ?? pretty cool!
Hey - does anybody know whether the phrase "knock and knowall" was around before the Lamb?
Where does that come from? What does it mean? Did Gabriel come up with it? (or should I say, it..)
Its true the LA show (9/23/77 that I was at!!! ) has alot of crowd noise.
The Long Beach show a few nights later is a good one to listen to as well. The band was really high energy at this point...
For the third album tour (there were t-shirts calling it the 1984 Tour of China...), The show I saw in Santa Barbara (June 1980), the band came in from the back playing drums to "Intruder" .
Edit...
The Lamb has an interesting "psychedelic" quality that I think is unique to it. Some of the lyrics seem to allude to taking a drug ("something inside me has just begun" ... "I've got sunshine in my...
Masterpiece, great album from start to finish. All killer, no filler. Including the story, the package, the lyrics, everything. Loved it when I first heard it around 1978, still enjoy listening to it...
Bob Marley - No Woman No Cry from "Bob Marley & the Wailers Live! " is definitive. Probably more commonly heard than the original studio version which is nice but has a different feel.
Gina Lola Breakdown
And of course, (copying this from my post on another forum) ...
Jon Anderson concert, Paso Robles, CA, Mothers Day 1996.
It was an outdoor show at a winery and it was a blazing hot day, like 90...
Peter Gabriel - (probably) at the Universal Ampitheater, 1982 (might have been a different show) - A gripping performance of Family Snapshot - when he gets to the ending section, he's got the hushed...
Count me out too.. Having seen both (a few times with Bruford, twice with the 3 drummer lineup), and listened to countless live recording, it's really comparing apples to oranges. Very different...
How about Gabriel's second LP? It had little square icons representing each player (with a small headshot) and instrument (with a graphic icon showing the instrument). (Fripp's icon was just a black...
Just for the record. I was just listening to a Steve Howe interview from 1987. He mentions Bruford wrote the "Eclipse" theme in "And You & I" (sings it briefly). (The majestic orchestral melody)
Just an amazing and magical group!! Nice to see that some folks here know of them (and to have been there for the Bap-tizum show at Ann Arbor -- wow!!)
Their music really rewards you the more...
I think maybe it was Belew's (or Wetton's) name he forgot (hard to imagine him forgetting Fripp's) ... But yeah, seems like he was mixing memories of the 80's "Discipline" Crimson with 70's Crimson....
Here's a KC tribute band:
https://www.facebook.com/King-Crimson-tribute-by-The-Great-Deceivers-132468405945/
Now, where can I find the current crimson's version of "Fracture"? Is there a...
Where is there a recorded version of this band doing "Fracture"? Thanks
...which means they were profoundly influenced by them
I always thought it was "You got the money back, that's OK. Who needs a Cadillac anyway?" . Possibly a comment on leaving Genesis just before the band started making real money.
Aha! I was just randomly listening to an old interview with Jon & Rick from Sydney Australia, dated 3/26/73. (I got it from this page: http://www.yessongs.nl/05-TFTO.html - under the "Interviews...
Which one of the claws is pink?
I've heard a bunch of live stuff from that period, and never heard much in terms of obvious overdubs on Seconds Out, but would be interested to hear where they are.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that Bruford wrote the Eclipse theme...
I never thought it sounds like he said that... :)
All JeffCarney was saying was the song bothers him, not that anyone else should feel the same way. And based on Plant's intro, I can see why he came to feel that way. I don't find that so hard to...
I agree there, but the real question is what is better Formentera Lady >> Sailor's Tale or The Letters>> Sailor's Tale.
Hard to imagine Formentera Lady NOT going into Sailor's Tale
also: a female vocalist and a string section... ;) Though they could do the string parts with mellotron/guitar...
I love that piece too... would be awesome if they did that and then into Sailors...
Is that true? I'm curious to know where you got that info. Is there a study that supports/demonstrates this claim?
