This is really good news to me. To me, Black Sea is a clinic on how to write creative guitar parts. An amazing album and I look forward to hearing this in pristine hi res format. There aren't too...
Bungalow Bill was a real sleeper for TRON..... just the spanish guitar in the intro, the entire phrase was one note on the TRON. This set was for AUNTIE EM in her parlor... you could play an entire...
Thanks for the info, apparently these are remastered and are DDD... so the 24/96 might be for real. HD has a 15% off new release promo and today is the last day.
I think I will pick this up. ...
This 20 track collection popped on HD TRACKS in Hi Rez.... does anybody know if this is just a transfer upsampled to 24 bits or a remaster from tape to 24 bits?
Can't find any info on the NET...
My guess is that the TRON on the INTRO of Cross Eyed belong to King Crimson, who seemed to always be recording at Basing St, the same studio that TULL used to record AQUA.
I know GENESIS...
This Steve snubbing was evident back in the MILTON KEYNES reunion where I am sure you have all heard that story. Steve has always been the most accessible and fan friendly member of GENESIS. Which...
ATH:
The video that I am referencing was not part of the HOF televised show. This was a after the fact, news conference type of thing where the 4 lads were on a podium together. Answering press...
So, I remember watching some video from the night Genesis got their award for the RnR HoF.... It was a video where the 4 lads were posing for photos and A Banks said some hurtful remarks in public to...
Just to add my 2 cents, the thing about LLDOB is that it still sounds "UNIQUE". Nothing like it before or after... like it or not, it just gives us more flavors to chose. My formative years (as is...
I know I stayed by my phone, waiting for a call that never came. But, it was good to have a dream.
Jim
This might have already been mentioned in this thread (I didn't read every post) but Universal Audio has a cool video of PUPPY using this AUDIO gear to record and it was quite entertaining. Which I...
CAT, RIP
JK
My favorite has to be "What is Hip" by Tower or Power......
Jim
Mr ELF....
Amazing coincidence.... I was driving home from the SUPERMARKET with my wife yesterday and starting humming the intro. I haven't heard this song in 40 years... I knew it was BECK but...
Another Big UV fan here. They were one of the real hip synth bands in the early 80s that I actually really enjoyed. Still listen to All Stood Still.... what a cool song.
Jim
Thank You - I never saw this video. Thought it very interesting and a bit strange (the super slo mo of close up band members)... maybe even a bit creepy but still very enjoyable and thanks again.
Top 5:
LLDOB
SEBTP
FOXTROT
Nursery Cryme
ToTT

Plus 1 for early HEEP. I guess my limit goes up to the EASY LIVING LP, after which, they become more popular and probably made a ton of cash in that era.
A song I find very interesting was "come...
Staying on topic, I would go with Salty Dog as well. I haven't really listened to PH for quite a few years, I used to listen a lot in the late 60's.
Jim
I hated PG1 when first released. What a big letdown to me. However, 40 some years later, I rather enjoy listening to PG1... Solesbury Hill one of my all time faves.
JK
Dave,
Just trying to be somewhat funny by adding the pantaloon reference. :-)
I am actually a big early Jethro Tull fan including the days when Mick Abrahams (Blodwyn Pig) was the guitarist.
...
Yeah, a fat, old and bald man isn't something I cherish to see running around in pantaloons on stage. I remember going to see IAN solo in a small intimate theatre and I fell asleep.
But, I really...
Yup... The Wall has as much overhype as does DSTM for me. Both great in their day but just overplayed to the point that I never reach for either recording during my listening sessions anymore...
I can't believe that the KASMIR has only 40 something plays (counting me).
Jim
Interesting... are you saying that DVD-AE can now do BLU RAY too? And, I was hoping that somewhere a new way to extract hi res from SACD's might be hiding in the weeds.... like an SACD player that...
Yes, on the Wilson DVDs and other Surround Mix efforts:
I have ripped my Wilson YES, King Crimson, Gentle Giant and Tull DVD A's to FLAC as well as the Genesis remixes. I use a dedicated LAPTOP...
Of course there is Neil Young's creation HI RES music effort PONO:
http://https://www.ponomusic.com
Tons of music, some in HI REZ, some in CD quality. But good that everything is at least...
I wish I had all FLAC but in the middle of rebuilding my all time favorite music to this format. I have SA CDs, DVD Audio (which I do convert to FLAC) and some new old vinyl (180 gram stuff) that I...
And Sat, again with FoF.... I wonder if he is a member of the forum? (and the game turned out better too).
Jim
Last night during the Rangers playoff game, the house organist was playing "FIRTH of FIFTH". In the past, I have heard "In the Court of the KK" and "Starship Trooper" on the house organ. Last night...
Never heard of him.... but now glad I did. Been a real long while since I heard something new that I actually liked. This guy is super talented and it doesn't hurt that GENESIS is obviously one of...
Having seen the MB back in the 90s, and seeing them now, I agree, this is pretty much overkill... I don't think any of the players are the same as back in the 90s. GENESIS wasn't the most lively band...
I just recently sold the OP samples of the DEWTRON bass pedals. He was OK.
JK
The album with the big red face looks familiar to me? King Crimson, who are they?
Jim
I too have the Ortofon 2M red... sounds good to me on vinyl. Rather listen to FLAK files of the old prog rock though.
I am sure that some experts could recommend a better value cartridge but will...
Back on topic for me.... Peter Gabriel vocals I believe seems to have the most conversation.... so, the problem Pete had LIVE is that he was forced to sing some songs beyond his normal range. The...
You know GENESIS, the overdubs were there most likely because of the lads need to always put forward their "best efforts"... obviously, the overdubs or changes were related to the previous statement...
Without a doubt - APOSTROPHE.... who you fooling with that cosmic debris.
GAK Omek......
I was sentenced to 4 full years at St Joes (class of '73). Small world but that school turned quite HIP for awhile. I used to smoke herb with some of the teachers in the teachers...
The posted YouTube live definitely has overdubs in places..... maybe I am wrong but I hear a BASS guitar, an electric 12 string part and Steve's main guitar part in Supernatural.... I saw this tour...
Even GENESIS LIVE had overdubs in the studio after the fact. The LADS are very particular when it comes to official released stuff even when they were young lads.
JK
I do know that John Burns did go on and work with Mick Abrahams and Blodwyn Pig... I just couldn't believe that Ian would call anyone out from the Aqualung sessions being that was their breakthrough...
Chalkpie,
John Burns might know (but I doubt he will remember). I do know that he didn't particularly care working with IAN. Whatever feud those two had must have run deep for IAN to call him out...
I do hear a clean HAMMOND in the center channel and an acoustic grand on the left channel. I also know that Mr. Barre used a 50's LES PAUL JR with a HiWatt cab (4x12) and 100 watt HiWatt amp head...
FB was a local band back in the early 70s. Frank Peto (spelling?) was in a music composition class with me in college. I got talking to him a few times while FB was in the studio recording their...
If you count synths, mellotrons and sitar usage as criteria, the Beatles were the first PROG BAND ever. Did you know that the opening of Bungalow Bill is a mellotron tape (the spanish guitar thing)?...
TFF - Big chair
Squeeze - Argy Bargy
Don't know if these were no. 1 - but I would love to hear these with the SW magic.
Jim
Have a couple of covers.... in the Midnight Hour (wilson pickett) and Heart of Stone (Rolling Stones) on a series of outtakes from The Lamb.... they sound like a bad garage band.
Jim
My 2 cents.... as mentioned, the costumes created the BUZZ about the band, which in hand got them noticed. Back in the day, being a GENESIS fan was in the minority... but us followers were DEEP...
I think that Whiskey Train is a good classic.... in my younger days, I was more of a rocker and the guitar and cow bell in that song always moved me.
Jim
Guilty or not, looks like our friend Dave K (aka Squids) got out before he got In Too Deep.
JK
Guys,
After further review I have concluded that I don't know what I am talking about some time..
I do have an MP3 that is different than the version I got access to on Amazon from doing the...
So, I pre ordered this from AMAZON and got the free MP3 rip (I am a prime member) and I think that the new stereo mixes of the songs by SW are already ripped.... at least there is different stuff on...
I liked it too.... something about horn sections... kinda reminds me of ToP.
Proclamation is my favorite GG song ever... simply amazing rhythms. The YOUTUBE of GG live doing this song is quite cool. I know I am a buyer at 15 lbs.
Jim
Yes, I didn't do it but it was floating around YOUTUBE for awhile and it was pretty coincidental. Someone did a LAMB and a video (I think it was Alice in Wonderland, but not sure) match up as well...
HDTRACKS has the goods with a 10% off discount to boot. I picked up the remaster version (no live tracks) for I and II, not that interested in III. The discount code is:
HDJUNE3
Picked up...
Then I should delete this.... I looked but didn't see any. Sorry about that.
Jim
I was asking about the ZEP re releases but am told that a thread already exists. Sorry, I did look first but didn't see one.
Jim
Makes me wonder if their might be a correlation between album grades and age of rater, no????
Maybe not 100% (exceptions to everything), but perhaps trend setting.
Jim
PS - Me, I'm just a...
