wait...it's not "The killer cycles, the killer hurts."? Seriously?
i have a strong feeling i'm going to be in the minority here. (of course, i'm used to that)
i find most of neil morse's stuff too grandiose for my tastes. imo, SB was at its best with ted leonard as...
After 2 listenings, my thoughts are: if you are a fan (and i am), you will like it.
But this is not going to convert any non-believers.
Hope they come back to N.A. after the European Tour (and...
Uh huh. I was already planning/hoping to see at least one date on the tour. Having Mitchell just added another level of excited.
In addition to the sets being different, so are the openers: David Bainbridge on Saturday, and a subset of IZZ on Sunday (which is the show I'll be attending)
ooops
The OP was talking about Rock Operas. Not concept albums. Big difference.
Off the top of my head:
Peter Hammill's The Fall of the House of Usher
Ok...that's 1
like we believe that's gonna happen....
When I saw them in upstate NY, the highlight for me was them doing Firepower (Fripp/Sylvian). It was (for me) totally unexpected, and the only time I have every heard any of that material performed...
good thing he had those other 3 talentless musicians in the band
:)
Hoping to go - working on trying to wrangle at least one other so I'm not driving 10+ hours on my own.
Most anticipated bands (so far):
You Bred Raptors?
tu:NER (who, hopefully, I will also be...
My daughter is moving about 15 minutes from there for college. So... Maybe next year??
tu:NER is playing about 30 minutes away from me, here in upstate NY - but i'm coming back from europe that morning, and between exhaustion and jetlag, was not sure i would make it. nice to have...
I'm not sure I'm ready to say that the lineup is weak, since they said more announcements are coming. However, my biggest issue is that, if you ignore a cover band (Mahavishnu Project), and you...
Cheer Accident in Kingston, NY...hmmm...well worth a couple of hour drive. Gonna have to pencil this one in and hope nothing comes up which would prevent me from going. Their set last year at progday...
speaking just for myself, i don't consider myself to be an arrogant prog rock fan.
however, i am arrogant.
and i am a prog rock fan.
so there.
sad to hear this.
i really only talked to him a few times - first time at nearfest apocalypse. and we'd briefly say hi when i would venture down to NJPH - not sure if i ever saw a show there where...
if anna's not there, who's gonna play the balloons?
that was the first one that came to my mind, as well. and i think there is another reason people assume it was santana: it sure as hell sounds like santana :)
thank you all for your responses. sounds like i can write off the odor as being room-specific. (btw, it was definitely not weed, nor farts. more like a mildewed gym locker smell.)
no need to check...
Speaking of the Comfort Inn...
The room I was in had a pretty foul odor. After 5 minutes or so, I no longer noticed it - unless I left the room and returned. I was on the first floor. I asked a...
I really enjoy their first two album - especially Playing House, which I think is spectacular.
This older release however, completely underwhelmed me. Just curious what others think...I might have...
There is (or was, last time I was down there) a seafood place pretty close to the hotel, called "Squids" - perhaps Kerzner owns it :D
I thought it was quite good.
Got mine, too
Always fun. And my "gateway" band to prog.
Wonder what outdoors and daytime does to their lightshow (which, imo, is not as good as the old liquid lights)?
I think that the Yes cover band is an 'after hours' band (at least, I sure hope so). Although last year they did have a generic Pink Floyd band as their Friday nigh headliner.
I was not impressed....
I think I can say, with confidence, that the last thing anyone here wants to see is your kling klang.
Having gotten that out of the way, enjoy the show. I'll be seeing them tomorrow night.
it appears to have been fixed. assuming nothing unforeseen occurs between now and labor day, looks like i'll be doing my 3rd progday!
What a great thing to see first thing in the morning. :)
A few years back there was a thread asking to pick 3 bands you would like to see play progday (and have a realistic chance...ie, don't say...
excluding the virtual-only year, but including bands currently announced for this year, here's the list of bands that have been repeated (sometimes in a slightly different guise, for example in...
Didn't they announce all these bands (along with IOEarth, Unitopia and Evership) during last year's Progstock?
They did. I was underwhelmed.
I know that the whole pandemic thing threw a...
Barclay James Harvest have a butterfly on (almost?) all their albums.
Magma has the...ummm...well, whatever it is, it is usually there.
Goblin had (has?) the little violin-playing imp creature.
As Stewart mentioned in the interview, Matthews is currently also in The Pineapple Thief. I caught them last night in NYC, and I thought he was very good. As was the whole band/concert. If anyone is...
rather confusing. i believe the wording on their website supports your comment ("Almost twenty years later, the band is still alive and kicking, but now only with its founder Stenberg - still in...
mixing it up a bit, playing some of the richard wahnfried stuff - which i've always thought were excellent. so different, and yet so clearly KS.
true. but an official 'hand off', as it were, allowing him/them to keep the name, could go a long way, in terms of audience (and thus, financially, for those that continue).
i could imagine a scenario in which fripp "passes the torch", so to speak, to jakko/harrison...whoever. and they continue without him. not saying i expect it...just that w/ fripp, you can't rule out...
Caught the last tour in Montreal.
Yes, and Yes
My son was at last night's show. Said the opener was ok - i think it was the lead vocalist from the cyberium. I haven't heard from him since...
anyone know a presale code?
Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it to tonight's show. But my understanding is that the Gramercy had theater-like seating towards the back, in addition to the floor-standing area.
damn...this one hits hard
perhaps i mis-read it, but didn't the OP want music specifically relating to existing pieces of sci fi literature, as opposed to songs/album with a sci fi theme?
anyway, surprised no one has...
To the best of my knowledge, Happy Rhodes is currently based out of mid-west NY (Binghampton-ish?), tho originally from Albany (where I've had the pleasure of seeing her perform 3 or 4 times, 20+...
any announcements about next year? dates? bands?
if i just type progarchives(dot)com, it does not load, but if i add www(dot) in front, it comes up fine
mike: any chance that the jakko thing will make the mainland (specifically the northeast :) ) ?
their last time thru north america, i ventured north and saw them in montreal. the place claims a capacity of 900. if i had to guess, i'd say they were at about 75% of that. not too shabby, imo.
Jed,
You definitely have me confused with someone else...
Ken
I would have to go with...
1. Love, Fear, and the Time Machine
2. Wasteland
after those 2, i don't really have much of a preference, but enjoy pretty much most of it to some degree. the last 2...
hate for you to think i'm kissing up or anything, but i would love a follow-up to lord of hounds.
i assume you realize i referring to this, and that i don't really think they are a cover band...but sometimes hard to tell if my intended meaning comes across in here....

Actually, I was not aware of that game. Don't think I've seen it anywhere. And besides....aren't they just a Rush cover band? ;)
I agree about the Metallica game - and I'm not a fan, really. It's...
It's not on the list (yet), but I would not be surprised to see it show up here, which is only about an hour from the Boston area:

I believe this makes Rush the first prog band to have a machine designed for (or based on) them.

I am hoping to meet my son (who is at Rutgers) in the city for this show (yes, he's also a fan). If you get a code other than via this thread, please share it.
That said - do you really think...
a) thanks for the reply!
b) that's a shame
Makes me wish i didn't live half a country away.
Out of curiosity, Mark, do you know if any of those artists are planning any shows in the northeast?
thanks!
Ken
i have no particular votes for anyone...but i do think that "Liberace's Hologram" would be a great name for a band
given the way they have chosen to display the "BX" on the poster, along with the fact that Machacek subbed for Goodsall a number of times, i can't help but wonder if they will pull out some old...
