I've been really...
Excellent album. I think their last few albums have only seen them get musically stronger (doing more of a space/techno thing-- and oh, it's happy, groovable, infectious music that sounds superb on...
All of their albums seem to take a while to get into. And then they hit the spot...
Other impressions on the new album? I'm still enthusiastic about it. Including its brevity-- there is yet a lot stylistically packed into its traditional 45 minute album or so. The instrument that...
Finally getting to my just-received copy of the new album. Oh wow-- I think it's superb. What truly progressive (post), (art) rock is all about. For want of a better way of expressing this: fantastic...
Thanks for the heads-up. Looking forward to it.
I find all their albums real growers. The more you dig in, the deeper it goes...Like some rich dream that disappears in the morning light, but still...
:up
BTW, was what I said too harsh? ;-) Sorry good Kenso fans. But I think if one wants to quibble about their offerings it should be more about the recording/production (variability there for...
Long-time fan here (1991-->). Love everything I've heard, and have (most), including the most recent. To me, with this band, assessing the relative merits/demerits of respective albums is like...
Thanks K.
Nice. Glad this happening.
Maybe I'm overlooking something though, but is there an actual hardcopy CD/Vinyl for sale, or just digital files?
Thanks for the heads-up. Ordered.
If people like the bonus track "Love Why Weren't You Missed," it would be worth getting Brett Kull's solo album, Last of the Curlews. As with some recent echolyn material, lyical/thematic connections...
Really looking forward to this. Thanks Esoteric team :up
Thanks for the heads-up. I think it's a decent tune. I liked it. Yeah, it could be a little more adventurous in the arrangement, and the keys could bring some more body, but it communicates emotion,...
Yeah. The biggest loss for me in all of music yet. Still kind of unreal.
Done. Looking forward to it...
Like some others here, it's been hard to listen to Yes at this time. Curiously, I've found solace in listening to another excellent artist who shares Chris Squire's birthday-- Serge Fiori, from...
Interesting enough that he is using a Fender; but wait-- is he playing that left-handed? Wild.
It's in his facebook friends newsfeed. I guess he didn't put it on the fan page.
Don't believe in miracles, but I do believe in love
Don't advise you to stick to rules, but their ain't no need to push and shove
Or in the end you`ll reflect the pool, reaching for the sky above...
Everything mentioned, and my fave off of FOoW: "Silently Falling." I love the ascending/descending flute/bass/piano combo at the beginning. Love the lyrics. Love that intense section before the last...
Great to hear of celebrities/other well-regarded musicians paying their respects. And a diversity of talent that might surprise. Questlove-- drummer for The Roots--had this to say on facebook:
"I...
You were such a positive, profound, life-changing influence on so many of us. God bless you Chris Squire. Rest in peace.
Was at the Montreal show last night. It was killer. It pretty much just got better as it went on. Some tunes I never thought I'd hear live-- what a delight. The highlight for me was probably "Jacob's...
Godspeed. Rest in peace.
Great show last night :up
Superman music of the future
I was a big fan of the original Sparta, but like Sparta Naked even more, overall. Would have to be my fave Kenso album. I think I paid around $50 for it or so. (Most expensive single disc I think...
In case anyone didn't know what a Kantele is (ancient Finnish harp/zither):

Also note that the insert photo in the disc booklet is of woods in...
My fave moment on the album is in track 6, starting around 4:26. Sonic orgasm. (Eargasm?)
Another consistently wondrous album from this awesome band.
Well said. More love here :up
Yeah. I was going to say something like early '80's instrumental Camel, but your description is more fitting (from the little I've heard).
I kind of liked Éclat before, what little I've heard of their '90's material. Any specific album recommendations?
So far, I'm digging the new MV. A little different, but a fair amount to digest...
Great artist. I can't speak as much about his solo stuff though-- not as familiar yet. Love his work on David Sylvian's Gone to Earth.
Any more reviews/thoughts on the new Minimum Vital album? Ordered mine. Can't wait.
Thanks for the heads up. Love them. Can't wait to get it.
RIP
So sorry to hear Geeze. My condolences.
They have, furthermore, a harmonic and melodic skill that is just breathtaking and rare, not to mention their rhythmic excellence. And there is a textural richness, with, again, an integrated...
Quite a few fans here, yes, and we tend to be pretty ardent about them. Musically, they've been in a handful of highlights of my life. It's that combination of technical skill with a creative conflux...
Never got the expanded set. Now I'd love to see a box set of all the bonus tracks from recent years...
One of the things I love about this album, and FK albums generally, is the pop song catchiness and melodicism, interspersed with expansive, cosmic 'symph.' I don't think the album would be nearly as...
Their best, IMO. Love every second of it.
A lot of us would say pretty much everything he's done is good. Different phases-- not everything is in the same style--but the quality has been consistent.
The problem I have is more with the recording sound-- I find it a tad too 'dry'-- especially the drums. Stolt used to get a richer, more lush and layered sound on previous albums, IMO. I miss that....
Hello Yves!
I've been one of the slacking fans and haven't got my tickets yet. Must get to it. For anyone on the fence: it really is a great time. Three fantastic shows in a row, in a great city...
The way I hear it, I think it's used a bit knowingly/tongue in cheek. Aware of the cliché, but owning it-- using it anyway, like a kind of commentary/other person dialogue.
Not that I think their...
True. They mix it up just a little more this way, this time around.
Got this today. Digging it so far :up
To me, it sounds like where they left off ten years ago. I wouldn't expect their earlier sound (which is fine by me, as I prefer their later albums)....
The Norwegian band Gazpacho, I'm pretty sure. (Aside from their clear Marillion connection).
BTW Walt-- love the Andre Gide quote! (Might have to borrow that).
And actually I find this question more interesting than a lot of typical music/muso topics because it gets more at the personality that made the music.
I remember seeing Richard Barbieri (Japan, Porcupine Tree, etc.) playing tennis.
Thanks for the tip. This one seems more active than some others I've seen (and it has the PE format) :up
Indeed, Xenakis is the definition of radical (and challenging).
I think his Kraanerg was the first CD I ever bought, back in the late '80's.
"Satan's Doorbell" :lol :lol
They make edgy seem effortless. Super, er, tight vocal harmonies, and a wicked wit...
:lol:lol
Ha ha. Ron, you might appreciate this one:

They are pretty brilliant in their lyric imagery, wit, and density. I usually have to watch/listen to a tune a few times to get all the references/jokes, lol. A great example:

Ha ha, that was pretty good. And of course there's this old gem. Good to know KB has a sense of humour...
